if I told you what I was, would you turn your back on me?
Who: General Hux & Kylo Ren.
What: The two heads of the First Order discuss their prisoner.
When: Two weeks following the attack on the Finalizer.
Rating: PG.
Kylo turned as the door to the small space he retained as an office off of the control room opened and admitted the man he'd called for.
"Thank you for meeting me, General," he intoned, his voice crisp and clearly more cheerful than it had been in past days. Despite the attack on the First Order's flag ship, it seemed as though something had lifted Kylo Ren's spirits greatly. He moved away from where he'd been standing at the window, motioning to the desk that was sparse but for a handful of datapads. "I trust I didn't pull you away from anything important."
In answer, Hux merely made a small, noncommittal noise. He moved closer to the desk, casting an eye over the datapads. The majority of them were dimmed or entirely dark. He turned his gaze up to the Master of the Knights of Ren, wondering what he had read on those cast-aside devices to put him in such a mood. He slid into a chair in front of the desk, folding himself into it with the dubious grace of a man whose pride outweighed his still-healing wounds.
"Is something on your mind that could not be shared on the bridge?"
Kylo's visor nodded as he approached the desk. A black, gloved hand reached forward and selected the datapad closest to the desk's edge, the press of a thumb lighting the screen up with orange text and graphs. A glance assured him that the tablet offered the information he was looking for, and then he passed it to Hux.
"The woman my knight captured, the one who Issan sought in her assault on the Finalizer, has been sharing some very interesting information, albeit unwillingly," he replied, remaining on his feet as he watched Hux analyze the data given to him. "I'm still unsure whether her abilities are tied to her Force sensitivity, but I would be surprised if they're not. This could open a new branch of research for our scientists. For the present, however, there are far more pertinent impacts that should influence our plans that revolve around Naboo."
The longer Hux reviewed the datapad before him, the higher his ginger brow crawled. "This certainly explains why she was worth trying to tear apart the Finalizer," Hux allowed. "Is she the only one of her kind with this ability? Can these other... " He gestured with his free hand. "Nightsisters, also access this power?"
"It's unclear at this point," Kylo replied, hands folded gently against his back. "Even if Issan has the ability, or other Nightsisters in her group, it would seem that they require a location in order to move from one point to the next. I'm more inclined to think Delilah is the only one, considering her origins are from the rift itself. It presents her as a special case; it also suggests that the others, however many there may be, would present a particular challenge to the First Order, especially now that their leader has no love for our cause."
Hux sneered. "What a kind way of putting it." He set the datapad down in his lap and looked up to his counterpart. "I do hope she's the only mutinous one of your lot," he said. "And I am not alone in my concerns. Just something to bear in mind as we theorize about Delilah's… abilities." His lips thinned. His voice dropped, as though he was concerned about being overheard. "If Issan manages to retake Delilah, we are all going to be in a very, very sizable black hole, Kylo."
Kylo's visor did not flinch at the subtle accusations leveled toward him. "I have seen to my own, General; there will be no more unforeseen altercations. This is why I bring this information to you now; if the First Order is to prevent a greater attack, we must work in tandem." He moved toward his desk, hitting a series of keys to bring up a hologram of Bastion. Another quick input zoomed into a detention facility on the far west side of the planet, sandwiched on three sides by water with a mountain range at its back. If the environment alone didn't make it impenetrable, the additional forces added therein certainly made its defenses impressive.
"Delilah is being held here, at the Imperial prison on Bastion. Any insight you can offer toward its defenses would certainly assist in ensuring that Issan does not reacquire her missing Nightsister."
The General studied the hologram for some time, cold eyes searching the map provided with the piercing glare of one who knew where to look. He pointed to a small outlet on one water-bound side. The images showed it as little more than a shadow, a grey smudge on the wall of the fortress.
"There is a sewage outlet," he said. "It isn't large, but it's enough for a small party to pass through one at a time. And we know our Resistance friends and their ilk don't mind crawling around in filth. That should be monitored at all times. I'll have additional stormtroopers placed there. A flametrooper might not be a bad idea. In a worst-case scenario, the sewage could likely be ignited." He nodded toward the high, rocky ridge. "Snipers should be placed in the mountains and at intervals along the topmost levels of the prison, as well."
As Hux spoke, Kylo tapped more keys to add representations of the man's stratagem. If it had been at all apparent before, he seemed far more assured of the prison's ability to hold its prisoner; the lines of his shoulders straightened, and he reviewed the hologram with an almost cheerful eye.
"I agree. I am also adding a number of knights throughout the facility. It's clear that one Nightsister alone can stand against a large number of stormtroopers, but they seem to falter when met with a Force user of equal ability." He tapped a few more keys, causing large red dots to appear throughout the transparent drawing of the facility.
"That should be more than sufficient, unless you have something more to add?"
Hux's eyes darted over the map, flicking from one new point to another. "I would like at least one knight be stationed near enough to each squad to respond quickly, should the need arise. If one squad falls and is not immediately supported, the prison will become a fortress we lose access to." He arched a brow. "I do hope you still have enough knights you trust for this."
Kylo's shielded gaze met Hux's. "I think we're equal for traitors, General. I would have you see to your own, and I to mine." He tapped a few keys on the desk, and the hologram of the planet and its prison snapped off. "That was all that I required you for, unless you have questions pertinent to your troops. I trust you'll put the information I gave you to good use."
Hux rose from his seat. He slid a hand down the front of his shirt, smoothing out minuscule wrinkles. His jaw remained set, his mouth a taut line downturned at the corners. That color did not dust his cheeks was no small miracle.
"Do not let more of my troops die for some foolish cause," Hux said. "I prefer that we work together, and I will aid you however I can, but the First Order's men are not kindling for your blaze of glory. I assure you the Supreme Leader feels the same." He nodded and turned on his heel.
Kylo said nothing more as the general disappeared from his office space. Whether he agreed or not with the man's sentiment was unclear; his dark form remained at the desk, visor tilted downward to its surface as he silently contemplated some thought. One gloved hand reached for the datapad Hux had discarded, and Kylo read it anew, as though wondering what fresh secrets it might offer.
