Imagine that you go to sleep one night and wake up the next morning not where you were supposed to be. All that you have with you is the clothes you were wearing when you fell asleep and perhaps your pillow or blanket, if you are lucky. Confused, you life your head up to see that it is a beautiful morning. Not a cloud in the sky and the sun is already dazzling. As you clear the sleep from your eyes, certain things start to stand out. You are alone, in a vast field. There is a gentle breeze blowing through the grass. The purple grass. You've never seen grass like that before and as you blink through the bright, nearly white light of the sun you notice the treeline and think that you've never seen trees and vegetation quite like that before either. In a panic you jump up, you run. You run and run and maybe even call out. Call for help. The only thing that answers is the rustle of small animals in the brush, the scatter of brightly coloured birds unlike any you've ever seen before.

Before long you tire yourself out. You keep moving until you are exhausted, you give in to fear. Maybe even sit down to cry. This gives you time to think. How did this happen to you? What happened last night? How did you end up in this strange, strange place so far from home? Unfortunately, nothing at all comes to you. It isn't until that strange white sun starts to sink below the trees that you hear them. In the distance, a strange laughing. No, it's not laughing but it is some kind of animal call. They are large, and there are more than a couple of them. They are moving your way, following the scent of your sweat, you're fear.

The only thing that you know then is that whatever they are, you don't want them to find you.

And then: "Hey," someone says from the brush, barely a whisper. "Hey, over here."

You look at find the face of someone just as dirty, clad in pajamas and wearing a lap blanket like a cape over their shoulders. It's dirty as well. They gesture for you to follow and more than anything else, you are so relieved. You've been found, and whatever has happened, at least you aren't alone anymore.

Essentially...

The field is a game about taking ordinary people and placing them without warning in a completely un-ordinary world. Nothing here is familiar save trees are still trees, air is still air and water is still water. The animal population is completely different from that of earth. All vegetation has a slight purple tinge, the sun's light is more harsh white than it is golden and at night the wild constellations are completely unfamiliar. There is no civilization in this place, only terrain. Some of it more hospitable than others. Most of the facts about the world will be discovered in game, in play, and through the collaborative efforts of the players.

What Kind Of Characters The Game Needs

A wide variety, to be truthful. Imagine if you will, you were going to start a brand new society. You'd want a little bit from all of the columns, wouldn't you? Someone to protect, someone to innovate, someone to keep the spirits up of those around them. I'm not saying "doctors, scientists, military personnel", what I'm saying is you, me, everyone could contribute something. Take in mind not only what they have been trained to do, but also what they know. What their parents taught them or what they read.
