Day 12: Isn't Nature, Um, Weird? Morning: 21C/70F Noon: 35C/95F Night: 23C/73F Another sunny, warm day at the beach! Ok, so maybe the lack of AC is starting to get to some people. After a week and a half, there have been very few signs of civilization beyond the beach of the pond and the lookout in the northeast. Animals, there are plenty of. Plants, more than you could ever want. The night sounds are eerie but at least there is a lot of vegetarian food. There is even meat, if you can find a way to catch it. At the lookout, the tiger-monkeys have descended. They are occupying the tree in massive numbers and don't seem as though they are leaving any time soon. Any human possessions (that smell like people, yuck!) have been thrown down to the ground or into nearby trees. At the pond, there is a fluffy tidal wave pouring out of the woods! They look like...well, like trebles. Maybe like very fluffy guinea pigs but it's hard to tell which end is the head and which is the tail. Or even how many legs they have. They spend the noon hour drinking as though they had never tasted water before and - amazingly! - doubling or tripling in size! The engorged fuzzballs retreat back into the woods and perhaps out of the oasis all together by dusk. Fascinating little creatures! Day 13: Easy Breezy Morning: 21C/70F Noon: 34C/94F Night: 25C/77F It's just a touch warmer today. Not a cloud to be seen in the sky (which isn't a surprise, since you haven't seen one since you arrived) but there is a bit of a breeze. Small mercy! Not much is happening around the Pond Village today. Sometime around dawn a large family of oasis deer (one buck with an impressive curly rack, six does and eight fawns) arrive on the far bank to drink. They don't linger too long though. What do you think? Hunt? Track out of curiosity? Or chalk it up to another strange observance in this place? Day 14: Wilter Morning: 24C/75F Noon: 39C/102F Night: 27C/80F It's a scorcher today. People should stick close to the water and don't forget to drink lots! You won't even see any animals around the pond. The fish, however, are strangely active. As the afternoon cools off, the gold coloured fish that seem abundant in the pond put on a show. Every few minutes one of the gold-scaled bodies launches itself out of the water, flipping head over tail and fanning rainbow fins. They smack back down with resounding force on the surface. For whatever reason, not all of the fish survive re-entry. A few golden corpses can be seen floating on the surface. Any industrious souls that want to swim out and collect some of them up, well, they could be eating well this evening! Day 15: Disturbing the Peace Morning: 25C/77F Noon: 40C/104F Night: 30C/88F Another hot day and the pond is crowded. The Tiger-Monkeys have come down from their trees to pick up the remaining corpses of the golden fish. They have a great old time, munching away on the bank. They will throw fish heads at anyone who gets close enough to them, though, so watch out! Another family of oasis deer can be spotted at the spring near noon time. The buck is irritable due to the weather. He may charge anyone who blunders upon them or makes any sudden noises. Sometime in the evening, a massive shadow passes over head. It even circles the oasis a few times. Is it a plane? Could it be a rescue? Will you check it out? Day 16: Blowing Out the Heat Morning: 27C/81F Noon: 33C/91F Night: 23C/73F It's a windy day today, which is a huge relief. If you stand in a good gust, it feels much cooler than it actually is. There are still no clouds to be seen, though. And there are no animals either, not even fish-ripples on the pond surface. There is a strange feel in the woods, almost like it's waiting for something... Day 17: Pandamonium Morning: 20C/68F Noon: 25C/77F Night: 22C/71F The sun never rises today. All that rises is a roar in the night. It persists all day long as a howling sandstorm descends on the oasis. Without proper doors or window coverings, the huts are little protection. The sand gets in your eyes, blinding you, up your nose, down your throat, choking you. It all ends near dusk, thank whatever gods you believe in. I have no doubt that some of you would have taken a torrential deluge over that experience any day. The spring is muddy and the water is undrinkable. Don't you hate the feeling of sand between your teeth? Day 18: Sweeping Out Morning: 24C/75F Noon: 29C/84F Night: 27C/80F Today should be spent digging yourselves out. The huts are full of sand, the woodpile is obscured, so is the kiln. The spring is a little clearer today but it's still pretty muddy. You can really only get clear water right at the source. However, those who wander into the woods today might find something fun or useful. Mod Note: So this is our first time update! What do you think? We will be on a one game week = one real month for the time being. This means that the next update will happen on May 22nd. Please notice that Day 18 is what I call a "finding day." Marie remembers these from the first tribe's experience. How this works is that I ask you to choose a number between 1 and 10 (comment with your choice) for each of your characters. The first person who comments is going to have to choose a number for Andy and Bethany as well, so I can't cheat and pick the best stuff for myself. Not every number will yield a find this time. There are only three numbers linked to a find. If you choose one that has an item linked to it, I will message you privately about what you have found. You get to decide where and how, and what your character decides to do with the item. Ok, so go for it! Comment with your number choices.</center> |
