It is with great regret that we are known as a terrorist organization in the eyes of the public today. All the past Directors of SHIELD have acknowledged that our goals have always been the same: protect those who could not help themselves -- a shield, if you will. Some may disagree with our methods, and we will account for them in Senate hearings. Today marks the beginning of the end for the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

To those of you who have the misfortune of serving under me, please know that my strict tactics made for a smooth running operations with as few casualties as were possible. They were not personal. All of those lost over the years weigh heavy on my heart, but I know that they gave their lives in service of this country and what this organization stood for. I have struggled with the knowledge that HYDRA infiltrated our ranks for as long as they did, but I have no doubts that we will rise from the ashes like the phoenix.

Today may mark the beginning of the end for SHIELD, but for many of us, it also brings the end of our beginning. We will not cower, but we will stand up for what we believed in. We will accept the consequences of our decisions. We will move forward without regrets. I promise you that SHIELD will not die here and now, but become something bigger than it was before.

As the late, great Director Fury said, "a man can accomplish anything when he realizes he's a part of something bigger. A team of people that share that conviction can change the world." That is what SHIELD has always been, and what we will continue to be, no matter the outcome.

My Spanish is more or less limited to hola, Cómo está, and gracias, but the images I saw on the news last night of helicarriers crashing into the Triskelion were pretty clear. The centipede soldiers trying to kill us yesterday also had some things to say.

For the moment I’m considering our local contacts non-options. Assuming that Martens was SHIELD which I'm not the sheer number of Centipede soldiers we were dealing with yesterday does not bode well for his status.

I’m going to report in with Victoria Hand, but under the circumstances I’d like us to work on our own intel to see what we can verify about what happened in DC. My laptop seems to still be functional. The wi-fi here is slower than molasses & completely insecure, but there seems to be a bit of information on the Internet.

Alright so here's the deal, people. Today sucked, but let's work on putting it behind us.

• If anyone is injured, go to a doctor and document it. At this point it's hard to say what legal options you have, but in case there are grounds, it's better to make sure you get all your ducks in a row now than try to later.
  
• If things in your apartment and or within tower workplace were damaged, alert your housing assistant or the Refugee Affairs department at Stark Charities about getting replacements.
  
• If your apartment was damaged and you can't stay in it tonight, Stark Charities has arranged for temporary housing at the Conrad down the street.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Director Nick Fury. Director Fury was shot last night, and succumbed to his wounds at 01:03 EST.

It is impossible to imagine SHIELD over the past four decades without also imagining Nick Fury. Director Fury was a principled man of unparalleled talent for espionage. Reinhard Gehlen of the BND once said that if Nick Fury had been born ten years earlier, the Cold War would have ended 25 years sooner and it's believable. Director Fury stood as a titan over the field of modern intelligence. But Director Fury liked to say that a man could only accomplish great things when he realized he was a part of something bigger than himself. Director Fury took an active role in the recruitment, education, and personal mentoring of countless agents and played a personal hand in the development and maturation of many of SHIELD's successes in recent years, including publicly, the Avengers Initiative.

He will be impossible to ever truly replace.

However, SHIELD must move forward. The World Security Council and SHIELD leadership have named Secretary of Defense, Alexander Pierce of the Triskelion as Interim Director of SHIELD pending appointment of a permanent Director.

I didn't personally know Norman Osborn, but he was about 10 years (and well, one multi-national corporation) ahead of me when I got my start in Manhattan, and I must say he was always somewhat of an aspirational figure. New York's lost a good man.

We've received word from Lady Sif that one of Asgard's prisoners has escaped and is here on Earth. She goes by Lorelai, and she's a powerful enchantress with a particular fondness for enchanting men. We have every reason to believe she is currently amassing an army of men under her control. She currently has one of ours, Agent Ward.

Agent Hand, we'll need some back-up stopping her. Agents not attracted to women preferred.
