I forgot to mention two things the other day:

1. If any student is in need of extra Mathematics tutoring, I am available. Feel free to contact me here or on my phone [number].

2. I am also available for child minding in the evenings if there are parents here in need of it. The contact details are the same as above; making the arrangements a day ahead of time would be appreciated.

I find myself enjoying these early mornings at the daycare, before the parents start to bring in their children. There is something so soothing about knowing that one has everything in readiness for whatever the day may bring. It is almost as enjoyable as the silence at the end of the day while putting everything away again.

Would you ladies like to join me for drinks one evening after work?

I have spent my day acclimatizing myself to my new environment, but I believe I can now safely say that I really don't know when I will ever feel comfortable here. I've read of New York, of course; I challenge anyone who considers themselves to be well-read and intelligent and understanding of current events to say that they are unaware of this city's existence. However, I did not ever expect to visit, much less nearly 200 years in the future.

As it is, I'm afraid that I've come to the end of what my own ingenuity can provide, and I do need assistance. The young lady who escorted me to this fine building was unable to anticipate all of my needs, nor would I expect her or anyone to. She did mention that I have belongings in storage, as I have been here before? But I know not where these things are or how to access them. I don't remember being here before, either, but that is a discussion for another day.

But I am hungry, and I would very much like to wear something other than the dress I arrived in.

Perhaps I should introduce myself. I am Miss Penelope Featherington, and I truly don't go on like this usually, but I must admit to being frightened and to wondering if there truly is anyone on the otherside of this window who will read my words and offer assistance. Thank you.

It must be some universal rule that there will always be a small boy who will find some sort of creepy crawly, and then show it to the small girl who will give him the best reaction i.e. hysterics.

Lovely start to the day for all involved.

Good day, ladies. I would like to schedule an appointment with you at the earliest convenience. This is in regards to the Youth Centre and a possible placement for me there if you find me capable.

But first, let me introduce myself: I am Susan Sto Helit and I have got a few years of being a Governess under my belt. I also had a few years of teaching seven year olds after that. I was, in fact, still a teacher when the Tesseract brought me here. I've been looking around since I got here and I think I would enjoy working at the Youth Centre.

Thank you. I hope to hear from you soon.

Still no sign of the Rat or the Raven. Or the horse for that matter. So I think it's safe to say that Grandfather did not have a hand - directly or indirectly - in this. It is strangely satisfying to come to that conclusion.

That also means that I'll be staying for a while by the looks of it, and that in turn means that I'll need a job. I'll go mad if I don't do something. One can only explore a place so many times before it becomes a useless endeavour. So, anyone in need of a Governess or a child minder or maybe even a teacher?

I've been told that I've been here before, even though I have no re-collection of it. This is apparently the norm. I am Susan Sto Helit for those of you interested in these things.

A more interesting question from me: Where can one find a gin and tonic in this city?

Should it appeal:

I have decided to conduct a historic cemetery crawl or two within the New York City area. New York has hundreds of hidden, forgotten, and curious sites intended for the peaceful rest of the Dead. If you have any interest in history, architecture, or if you have an odd morbid streak, you might wish to come with me.

I intend to see the "hidden" cemeteries lining the Western-most border of Queens, the Cypress Hills National Cemetery honoring both Confederate and Union Dead (and incidentally, where you can see debris from the glacier that once covered the area), and the beautiful stained glass of Flushing Cemetery. If I can manage it, I would also enjoy visiting the Catacombs at Green-Wood. I anticipate little difficulty in our visitation provided that I keep the groups small and we are respectful and quiet, and if anything terrible should go awry, I assure you that I am well-able to care for most.

So that I can gauge interest, please let me know if you might like to attend such tours here.

Welcome, new arrivals.

I am Susan Sto Helit, Headmistress of the SHIELD Educational Services Division. You may address me as Miss Susan.

Within the week, your Advisor should contact you to discuss your academic interests and help you determine what coursework or school situation will be most appropriate for you. They will then assist you with enrolling in classes. If you would like to review the Course List ahead of time, it is located here. Please also note that for those who wish to pursue a more conventional educational path, we do have agreements with a few local schools to allow our students to attend.

For those of you who are not new here: please attempt to be friendly to the new arrivals. Introduce yourselves, tell them when Movie Night in the Youth Center is, et cetera.

Anyone with further questions, concerns, issues, or complaints may feel free to address them with me or with your advisor.

Sincere regards,
Susan Sto Helit

I think I'd be much happier with a horse instead of a wheelchair for getting around. Nothing quite like being astride, feeling them respond to your command, the power beneath you. It felt good to be back on a horse yesterday. Bonus was getting Nurse Chapel on a horse as well. Of course, the manouverbility of a horse compared to a wheelchair is an added benefit. Not to mention, it reminds me of home in a good way. I'd be there for hours every day if the good Doctor would allow it.

I made the mistake of not following my instincts today. And looked at things on youtube. Big mistake. Apparently people here think I have a crush on Kirk or McCoy. Or Kirk's father. Honestly.

Though some of what I've found is interesting - about the alternate versions of myself, Spock and the others. I might even be interested in watching that.

I want to go home. There. I have said it. I will never say it out loud, because that would be whining, but I want to go home. There, if my students disappear, I can do something about it. I despise this feeling of helplessness. I am not built to be a victim of circumstance.

But every morning for nine months I have tried, and nothing happens. Just nothing. Nothing is infuriating.

The 'internet' is a fascinating place.

Apparently, the story of our lives is popular among mortals, and they have drawn many pictures! Some are foul indeed, but there are lovely ones as well.

Cut, not filtered, for artwork links )

I ask, has anyone else found artwork of themselves that is either fair or foul? I post only that which is good, but there is an equal amount that is wretched.

Of these I have posted, I am fascinated at how well these mortal artists could reproduce these events that they did not observe.

As I know many of you are already aware, Mr. Saltzman has been taken back through the Tesseract. Your history class will be continuing under the direction of Mrs. Hastings as of tomorrow. For those of you for whom Mr. Saltzman served as academic advisor, you will have a new one as soon as a suitable candidate can be found.

For those of you who were personally close with Mr. Saltzman, I am sorry he was obliged to leave without proper farewells. He is a fine teacher and a good man, and he will be missed.

Miss Shirley and Miss Evans -

Due to Lieutenant Paris's sudden departure, I'm afraid we are without a teacher for your 19th and 20th century history class. I am working to find a replacement as soon as possible, and will advise you of such when I have succeeded.

Have we any history enthusiasts with particular interest in the 19th and 20th centuries who would possibly be interested in picking up 3-5 hrs/wk of volunteer teaching time?

I don't understand all the weedy discouragement in this place. There are plenty of books in the world, is that a reason we all should stop writing? Plenty of paintings, should we stop expressing ourselves that way? As far as I know, there are loads of reasons why people shouldn't do a thing or another but because we've too many doesn't seem to make sense at all: because who are you to say the book, picture, film, actor, car, house, or streetlamp over the horizon isn't loads better'n the one you have already?

And it's not the same as pessimism or cynicism. Believe me on that, I know.

(OOC:Not a filter)

I've secured a space for both art studios and a gallery. New York's Irish Art Centre has donated space for the cause in her building and offered to help fund the renting of a loft or two if I can find other parties interested in funding refugees. If anyone can think of someone who might be willing to donate or patron a refugee because of who they are or who they're affiliated with, that might be helpful. I know the Art Centre was quick to get involved because of my...parentage and ... nationality, we'll say. I'm sure there are others here who could find that sort of support if they looked or asked around. Keep in mind it's for a cause to help us all, then.
