I signed up for a class at a local community college today. Just one - I'm very nervous, and I've never really been to any sort of school before, but I want to learn about this world I've found myself in. It's a class in modern English literature...which I hope isn't too terribly hard.

Is anyone else taking the class? I should very much like to find other students to study with.

Also, women's jeans are terribly uncomfortable. I could barely breathe! I think I shall stick with skirts.

On behalf of PTYC, I am excited to announce some upcoming volunteer opportunities. Adults are also encouraged to participate.

1. I have been in contact with a children's ward at a local hospital. They are eager for volunteers to come interact with the kids, especially in the form of storytelling. For those of you from a popular book or fairytale, this is an easy way to lift their spirits and bring a smile to their face. I will be taking a group Saturday morning at 10am.

2. Can you lift a spoon? Then you're qualified to come help with a soup kitchen this Sunday. They have a lot of mouths to feed and not enough hands to ladle. We'll leave Potts' Tower at 9am to help set up for lunch.

I have to say that it's astounding what muggles have gotten up to in thirty five years. I had just held my first floppy disk last month and I'm going to guess that those are obsolete now. It doesn't look like they would fit in anywhere. I'm still trying to work my way around this advice device. I apologise if I accidentally send nonsense words.

Today I braved this bizarre Muggle world for the first time, and I saw something I never expected to see: myself.

There was a large picture, only it was like a muggle picture and it didn't move (although there are a lot of pictures that people post on here that do move, but they aren't by magic) and it was myself and a man I have never met before. I was wearing some sort of skintight trousers and body suit and carrying a large bow? It said Witch Hunters at the bottom, but I've never hunted witches with a bow in my life! And I've certainly never worn anything that looked like that.

Can anyone explain this?

So, I've noticed that a lot of you are new to living in cities and modern life, and that not all of you are the "prepared for any and all trouble that comes my way" types. This worries me, because I'm the oldest of 7 kids and therefore I have a little bit of a mom complex that I can't shake.

However, I'm also a life-long city girl (Chicago) with lots of experience navigating the streets before I ever had any training or genuine skills with magic. So, I've decided to share some tips here:

General Guidelines for Life in the City

1. Don't go out after dark alone. People who are alone are more likely to be targets of robberies or assaults than people who are with others.
2. If you carry a purse, hold it close to your body. Wallets are safest in front pockets.
3. If anybody does attempt to rob you, just hand your stuff over. Do your best to make solid mental notes of the appearance of the person who stole your stuff, and report it to the police. You do not have any stuff that's worth dying over.
4. There are a million different methods of self-defense taught by volunteers here. Pick up one of those classes so you can learn to fight back effectively if anyone does try to hurt you. Learn what to do and how to do it so fighting back is second nature rather than something that's just going to get you hurt worse.
5. Be alert and pay attention to your surroundings. If anything or anyone is creeping you out or bothering you, just leave. You are not responsible for anybody else's hurt feelings.
6. If you're leaving Potts Tower, make sure somebody knows where you're going and when you should be back.
7. Don't accept any drink you didn't see made/opened.
8. When getting to know people (making friends in your new dimension, going on first dates, etc.) go to public places until you're confident that they're trustworthy. That includes getting to know people here in the Tower.
9. And finally, if you are a victim of a crime, report it both to the NYPD and to SHIELD. Dial 911 in an emergency, and the person on the other end of the line will send help. Again, that includes if someone from the Tower hurts you.

I need to speak with anyone who has been transported here, leaving behind their children. Immediately.

Oh, but you can just go back and delete your errors? Well, isn't that ducky! Sure saves a lot of time. I'm still going at a snail's pace here, since I don't use the typewriter very often, but when I did, it was hopeless mess. I think I'll just leave those at the beginning for humor's sake.

Really though, wow. It took me hours to figure out this network thing, and it will probably be another hour by the time I'm doing writing all this out. Nevermind the stuff outside! Some things are familiar, but others look positutely out of this world. Even the lemon squeezer seemed different. A lot smoother, actually, I have to admit.

It's nice to be in New York still, but I don't know. Even with all these whosee-whatsits, it just seems like it's missing its edge. I am way too young though to be gabbing about the 'good old days'...well I guess I'm technically too young. I'm technically 17, but that's not what my birth certificate will tell you.

Oh, anyway, I'm Evie O'Neill, and I don't know from nothing what's going on. I sort of suspect I might have gotten myself into this pickle, but then, I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHY YOU ARE ALL HERE TOO, SORT OF LIKE I DON'T KNOW WHY ALL OF THE LETTERS ARE SO BIG ALL OF A SUDDEN- HOW DO I MAKE THIS STOP?

I am not entirely sure if any of you are planning to attend the Potts Tower Christmas get together or not, but if not, I plan on cooking a good meal and providing wine for any one who wishes to stop by and get away from the literal horde of Potters and Weasleys and the like. I figured, a nice quiet little Christmas for ourselves would be a lovely chance to get caught up here.
