Oh, just lovely. Look out, everyone. There is a pigeon on the loose in the tower and it is apparently fond of dive-bombing unsuspecting people. I have pigeon poop all over the shoulder of my lovely jacket. It had better come out or I may suddenly discover a desire for pigeon pie.

Ugh. This weekend was crazy. Tabs, we have to do that again sometime!

But all those sailors over the weekend got me thinking. It's always fun to look at fine examples of men. But then I just found myself missing Emmett. I mean, I'm always missing Emmett, this is the longest we've gone without talking for as long as we've known one another, even if the distance thing isn't new.

But I can't be the only one here without a spouse, or a fiancé(e), or significant other who isn't here, and a lot of you have been here way longer than I have. How are you coping with it?

135 lbs (horrid, but have been eating ice cream/drinking wine with Ivy to commiserate in horrible teenage hormonal experience so to be expected), alcohol units 12 (see commiseration with Ivy), cigarettes 0 (surprisingly good considering), calories 3998 (v. bad).

Have been reminded of the utter absurdity of the teen-age state of being due to room-mate being suddenly reassigned into a teen-age body. What have we all done to the universe that we must be resigned to spend so much of our entirely too brief existence on the planet as a teen-ager? Am also now convinced that everyone was a far more gorgeous teen-ager than I ever was, and can only be grateful (but quietly so, because I would not want to rub it in Ivy's face) that I was somehow unaffected. No one needs to see another zit.

Or ten.

Must begin a diet immediately. There is the prom coming up v. v. soon, and the weight that I have, even if at least three pounds is likely water retention, means that I will be unable to fit into any dress of any worth. I tried on my dress from Fashion Week last night and it was tight. Entirely too tight for me to consider wearing that to Prom. On the bright side this means I must buy a new dress. On the less bright side it means that I must buy it in the next size up.

V. bad. V. v. bad.

Also. Do not have date. Am completely undesirable to anyone who is not Mark Darcy, which would be quite fine if only Mark Darcy did not run off via the tesseract. Actually, may not be desirable to Mark Darcy as he disappeared.

Must get weight under control. Will be lovely and flirty and beautiful and will have a date before prom.

It is a worthy goal.

V. important decision everyone as it will determine the number of dances I am able to enjoy at the prom.

It seems I've just missed a celebration in my honour. Perhaps there's a bright side to this situation, after all.

I was thinking on expanding my limited cooking ability. Does anyone have any suggestions of dishes for beginners that I might try?

I have decided that my current pattern of apartment-library-apartment is perhaps not the healthiest and I need to get out more. Always before I relied on Ronnie or Holmes to drag me out or my ghastly aunt to drive me out of the house. Without that I seem to turn into something of a hermit. So I have bought tickets to the Shattered Glass Ensemble's performance at Carnegie Hall on May 7th. I never much cared for violin music before I met Holmes but he plays so extraordinarily well that I couldn't help but be converted. At least when he's actually playing music and not simply creating godawful noises because he's feeling miffed about something. But that's beside the point. This Shattered Glass Ensemble looks rather interesting and I think I will enjoy hearing them.

Well, it's good to start getting busy again. I have found a part-time job at the New York Public Library, mostly assisting the researchers wanting to use the special collections, which is rather ideal. I am also taking a position as a teacher for the educational services here.

I shall be taking over the teaching of French and Chemistry and I am also offering Aramaic, Arabic, Hindi and Theology: Feminism in Judaism and Christianity for those who might be interested. If anyone is interested in the Theology subject, I strongly recommend also taking one or more of Latin, Greek and Aramaic.

Hello everyone. My name is Mary Russell and I'll be your new French teacher. You can call me Mary or Russell or Miss Russell, whichever suits you best. I think the first step I need to take is to meet with you all so I can see where you are in your lessons. That way I can work out the best way forward and we can get to know each other. Did you have a place where you usually met?

Hey everyone!

I’m Kitty Pryde. With the unfortunate loss of Susan Sto Helit a few days ago, I talked to SHIELD about taking over for her at the Educational Services Division, or ESD from now on to make it easier. I’ve been teaching there on my off time, but I gave my two weeks notice to SHIELD to focus solely on this. She left behind impeccable records and I’m going to do my best to keep her vision alive.

I look forward to getting to know everyone in the division soon, but for right now I’m going to need basic facts to move from here. There needs to be some reorganization with the loss of students and teachers, so what I need is all of the teachers and advisors to sign in. Reply to this post to restate you still want to be involved. Advisors, I need you in particular to reply so we can talk about your current students and work load. This is also the place for any new people to offer their services if they have experience teaching. We have an amazing group of students here.

Also if anyone over eighteen wants to sign up for some of our advanced and creative courses, since boy do we have a lot of them, please feel free to do so.

Students I would appreciate replies here too to talk about your classes and advisors and any feedback you have right now. Feel free to filter anything you want to me if you don’t feel comfortable talking in public, and I’d be happy to meet with anyone privately too. I know this has to be a big collaborative effort and I’m looking forward to jumping into the deep end here.

I’m afraid I might be clogging up the network for people in the division over the next week as we work out the details, but I hope everyone can bear with me.

[ooc: there will be an ooc post after this with more depth, but please do reply with your characters officially IC here]

What are you doing this weekend? I was hoping that you'd like to come out with me. I could show you a few of shops that I've found since my arrival.

Hypothetically speaking, if someone said that they liked you on Valentine's Day, and then didn't say anything to you for the next, well, month, even though you see them every day, even if they are very busy...

What would you do?

I've seen some pretty weird things, but this has got to be the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me. I suppose if vampires and weres and witches and all that are real, time travel shouldn't be much of a shock, but still. It's hard to believe this isn't all a dream.

Anyway, hi! I'm Sookie Stackhouse. I've never been to New York before, so I guess I'll at least have some fun exploring!

The New York Public Library is magnificent. I could happily spend every day there and not miss my dear old Bodleian one bit. They've already had to gently remind me to leave at closing time twice this week. I just need to obtain access to the special collections. I can't wait to delve into the Dorot Jewish Division and the Rare Books. I don't think it will take too long to reconstruct my research as it stood before I was brought here, catch up with the existing research in my areas of interest and then start examining where I need to go in terms of the research.

Incidentally and rather off topic, I found a shop that sells proper Stilton in Greenwich Village and rather indulged myself so if there was a distinctly Stiltonesque smell lingering in the corridor on the 12th floor, I do apologise.

For those of you who were interested, the Refugee Women's Support Group is a go. We'll be having our first meeting on Sunday in the Community Center, let me know if you would like to help and I can send you an email.

There will be food involved! Bring friends and allies!

Edited to add:

The meeting will be at 10am. Yes there will also be coffee, in case you are worried.

Please tell me we can be a team for this scavenger hunt thing. Or can we just get Thor drunk and take a picture with him, because that would make my night.

So...Sam I guess does want to use your gift alone after all.

Hmm. Hmm.

I have a question. A few really. I've been thinking about them for a while, but I keep avoiding asking you in person, and maybe they will be easier on here.

I've spent too much time, ai much more time than I'd ever desire, pouring over magazines and the internet in search of advertisements. And it occurs to me that they are all largely the same in nature.

I see no difference between these images or the messages they are trying to send. Am I to look at the woman portrayed, the jewelry or the clothing she wears?

RDuJour / Vogue Paris 2013
Prada Resort 2013
Ralph Lauren Fall 2012 / Winter 2013

I am hardly inclined to purchase any of it. Is it to entice women to buy?

And the wares they are 'selling' are not beautiful in any regard. I could produce much finer things and I am but one handed and rather unskilled with a forge. Though my father produces many beautiful things with great care and skill.

They said I should introduce myself so here goes. My name is Mary Russell. I'm 22, I was pursuing further studies at Oxford University to become a Theologian and I am the partner and wife of Sherlock Holmes. I suppose those are the important things to know. I must say that as strange as it is to find myself here, I do like the modern fashions. It will be very nice to wear trousers all the time.

Hello, everyone. My name is Virginia Potts. I'm better known as (and answer to) the moniker that Tony gave me many years ago, Pepper.

I wanted to take a moment to welcome you all to the Refugee Network. Tony Stark - as well as many others - created the network so you would have a safe space to talk without the prying eyes of the media. I'd like to give them a warm thank you for their hard work.

Some of you have been here for a while, and as of today, the Tesseract has given us more refugees than it has in the previous five months, and it's still going. I'd like to take a moment to thank the hard-working men and women of S.H.I.E.L.D. for their diligence and perseverance. Without their quick thinking when refugees began to appear, this would have been nearly impossible for any one of us to handle.

And on that note, Director Fury has asked me to pass along the message that they are in dire need for Administrative Staff to help with processing. Anyone who is interested can pass on a note to your Housing Assistant.

Speaking of, there should be one Housing Assistant per two floors (and in one case, three floors). Should you require any assistance, they should be able to help you. Potts Tower is not a new building, but we have gutted it, given it an ARC reactor for clean energy, a full service gym in the basement, an outdoor patio and pool area, and an entertainment area. We plan to utilize all of these areas in the upcoming holiday season in the hopes that it helps alleviate some of the melancholy of being without your families.

Once again, welcome to the Refugee Network and Potts Tower, and I look forward to getting to know you.

-Virginia Potts
