Once, way back when the world needed heroes the most, a woman answered that call. She patrolled the streets, and found love, in one of the two uncorrupted cops. She retired, and raised a daughter who had a power neither of her parents had that she was born with. She taught the girl to use her powers only when needed. She didn't want her daughter to do what she had done once upon a time. Things were darker.
But trying to stop that resulted in only pain because she had taught her daughter too well that responsibility meant protecting those who can't protect themselves.
I miss Mom. The fall always reminds me of her.
