Ugh. So. I've been looking into re-establishing professional and personal networks here, and I'm going to reach out to everyone else for a moment.
  • A. It is apparently a tremendous pain in the culo to get a New York State Driver's License. Do you see all those hoops they want? A five hour class? Book an appointment three to six months in advance? I have a New Jersey License, but something tells me residing in Gotham City might spring a few flags here. Is that even valid? I mean, I know how to drive, but would that license be valid here?
  • B. Started in on the NYPD application procedure. At least that's a bit more streamlined. So Morgan. Look for Company soon.
  • C. Insofar as how everyone's adjusting. I know back in Gotham, I had a group I went to about once a week. I've checked Intergroup here, and over the past two weeks been to probably seven or so different meetings in the area. Open, Closed, Big Book, Steps, Womens' only, Spanish language, LGBT, you name it and I'm not finding a decent fit. Maybe I'm not being patient enough. But I'd say right now the biggest issue I'm dealing with is being ripped out of my dimension by some blazing blue box into a world that's like mine but different. And I don't think that's something a lot of people at these groups are getting. So I'm going to reach out and maybe say a bit more than I should about my personal life. But if anyone else here is in recovery and would be interested in forming a group that meets once a week or so, that'd be great.
  • D. Yoga is daaaaamn expensive in this city. But I found a gym a bit more towards midtown that's 12$ a class if anyone's been looking for one.

So that's that. Still looking for a decent church, and have some shopping to get done, but this city isn't half so unconquerable as TV says it is.

Anybody got a spare lightsaber I can fiddle with? Or, alternatively, anyone want to just stab me with their lightsaber?

The less questions you ask, probably the better.

Officially a detective with the NYPD. Fuck yeah, I am. Well, sort of. In training for that shit but I will be soon enough. Just have to fill out the fucking paperwork. Step down from Lieutenant but like, because I only was one for half a day so I can't feel too bad about that.

Anyway....And I don't know if any of you have seen the first MIB movie or whatever, but it has always been a life-long dream of mine to shout "NYPD STANDS FOR 'KNOCK YOUR PUNK-ASS DOWN" at some purse-snatching asshole so I can't fucking wait to throw that shit around.

It's funny to remember how impressed I was, the first time I came to New York, when now ...

Now it just looks so small.

This place is just like everywhere else. People are horrible and mean and they call me names. Supposedly adult men just called me a "bitch" and a "whore" and all sorts of other horrible things just because I disagree with them.

And of course, they made fun of me for being blonde, while calling me a bigot.

I hate this place.

I hate people.

And I thought it could be different here.

[OOC: Yes...Gabby is sixteen and in full-on drama queen mode now. XD Sorry.]

Well fuck.

I don't know which dickhole thought it was a good idea to bring me here, but let me just say that as sure as hell if I fucking see him I'll make damn sure he knows it was a bad fucking move.

For the rest of you, my name is Debra Morgan, lieutenant with the Miami-Dade Police.

And it's fucking cold as fuck outside -- Do people in New York actually fucking live like this? Like fuck?

Every time I get something straightened out, the universe puts another dent in things. Perfect. This would be the reward I'd get for sticking my neck out and saving the galaxy.

I don't suppose anyone's seen a Wookiee.

Hello, everyone. My name is Virginia Potts. I'm better known as (and answer to) the moniker that Tony gave me many years ago, Pepper.

I wanted to take a moment to welcome you all to the Refugee Network. Tony Stark - as well as many others - created the network so you would have a safe space to talk without the prying eyes of the media. I'd like to give them a warm thank you for their hard work.

Some of you have been here for a while, and as of today, the Tesseract has given us more refugees than it has in the previous five months, and it's still going. I'd like to take a moment to thank the hard-working men and women of S.H.I.E.L.D. for their diligence and perseverance. Without their quick thinking when refugees began to appear, this would have been nearly impossible for any one of us to handle.

And on that note, Director Fury has asked me to pass along the message that they are in dire need for Administrative Staff to help with processing. Anyone who is interested can pass on a note to your Housing Assistant.

Speaking of, there should be one Housing Assistant per two floors (and in one case, three floors). Should you require any assistance, they should be able to help you. Potts Tower is not a new building, but we have gutted it, given it an ARC reactor for clean energy, a full service gym in the basement, an outdoor patio and pool area, and an entertainment area. We plan to utilize all of these areas in the upcoming holiday season in the hopes that it helps alleviate some of the melancholy of being without your families.

Once again, welcome to the Refugee Network and Potts Tower, and I look forward to getting to know you.

-Virginia Potts
