Japan, unsurprisingly, is still very much itself here. Though I'm a little disappointed in the skill set of my temporary business associates. Some small challenge would be welcome.

I'm gonna lay this out there. We have no science department right now, so we have no idea where the portals came from, why they showed up, if they're tied to anything we might have done, or if the disappearances have anything to do with the portals.

I know there's a lot of science types out there, but we are severely lacking in equipment, and we're still talking funding with those of the Displaced who offered there help. If you'd like to be included on budget talks because you're interested in helping us fund the place, that can be arranged, just let me know.

For now, we're still handling everything on a volunteer basis.

We might need a bigger science department then I thought. We were not prepared at all for those portals to open up around town. Thankfully, the Displaced stepped up, like they always do, but we need to find out if there's a way we can get some kind of advanced warning. Some kind of readings that might give us a hint at where a portal might open up.

We're back in Tumbleweed, but as some of you may have figured out, the town is completely different than it was the last time we were here. There's an airport now, which my car navigation system pointed out, and it's on the opposite side of town from Fort Neill.

Of course, that's not the most startling or disturbing difference. Fort Neill is a graveyard, and I mean that in the kindest sense of the world. It was locked up when I got there. Got my way in to find a dusty military facility that has not been used in quite some time, and it looks like it didn't happen on purpose.

The military is dead, and I don't mean they cleared out. I mean there is an entire facility full of the skeletal remains of whoever was in there when something happened. That something appears to have been some sort of [...] feeding, possible animal attack. There are definite teeth marks on these bones, and the state of decomposure... it's not new. At least a decade, maybe more so it's not as horrendous as it could be to see.

I have not turned the power on; I don't want to disturb the bodies more than I already have, but I'd like for anyone interested in helping to come down to the facility to move these bodies — telekinesis, magic, or just standard issue gloves — so that we don't taint the bodies with our DNA. We'll have to keep the power off until that happens, and then there should be video monitoring we can check to see what happened, check databases and logs to see if there's any evidence of what might have happened here.

I'm leaving this open so we can discuss what to do. After scrounging around the base, I haven't seen any paperwork or IDs for those of you who arrived on the cruise so that's something we should work on immediately to get people in the system so they can work, get IDs, and whatever else they need. We'll need people who can make IDs and people who can get into the necessary systems for government agencies to make sure the back-end is taken care of in anyone wants to cross state or country lines.

And a warning to some of you who worked at the military before: yes, we knew some of these people if the names on the uniforms check out.

I know I've been distant and I'm sorry about that. I know we're all going through the same thing, having to leave behind yet another world where we thought we could go grow old, leaving people we loved behind, so it's no excuse that I've been closing myself off from people. From you guys.

I know there's not a lot of us, so I want to make sure all of us stay safe and stick together. Even you, Barnes, though you're still a pain in my ass. So dinner or something, soon? We can figure out those trackers Aria and Ezekiel were talking about.

As strange as this sounds, I need you to not throw away seeds, leaves, or cuttings from fresh fruits or vegetables. I can grow more food stores from them. Seeds and roots are most helpful, given that they're already primed to grow.

I'm not promising an orchard or a rice paddy, but I can at least extend our supply of fresh food if needed.

Edit: I'll set up a system to collect the seeds and cuttings on at least a daily basis. Remember, they need to be fresh. I can't use dried, freeze dried, or spoiled materials.

So that tournament as awesome. But damn do I miss my katana.

I'm looking for information about this port, or maybe Tumbleweed when we get back there, to help me with a big spell. I need to draw on a lot of power, something potentially endless, or at least massive. Like a rare celestial event, a rare magic event, something that produces a lot of magic energy. Sounds kind of vague, but I guess it kind of is.

Does anyone know of anything like this available or fast approaching?

So my band didn't work on my room. For one horrifying moment I thought I was being voted off the ship. I liked Middle Earth and all, but please don't leave me there.

I've filled most of a notebook talking to local gardeners and botanists about plants that can grow in small spaces. I've got photographs and samples and I think I'm going to spend the evening planning a good layout for the balcony outside my room, if anyone would like to join me at the cafe on the ship.
