[Scott, Logan, Jean, Rogue (616), Betsy, Warren, Kitty, Charles] I believe you all know by now, but for anyone who may have missed it, Quentin Quire is here. He is underage. Unless someone else has the burning desire to be annoyed constantly, I will be taking responsibility for him. If there are any issues with him, I need to be notified. If he is actively causing trouble and needs to be claimed, please contact me as soon as possible. In cases where I am somehow unavailable, get Logan and he will handle any situations in my stead. As I am well aware of how unpleasant he can be, I am requesting that we all remember that we are the adults and he is a teenager and, as such, engaging with him on his level is not productive. If and when we return to a world where our numbers are no longer in the double digits, then we can carry on with our petty squabbles there.
Here, we are a tiny minority that has to learn how to live with one another. Quentin deserves a clean slate; he will certainly make his own enemies in his own time here and must make his own mistakes. But what he's done should not overshadow the potential good that can come of him in the future. And it is foolish to act as though our words and actions cannot impact his growth here. Keep this in mind.
I am writing a bloody pep talk about Quentin Quire. I hate everything.
If it strikes you as ironic that I, of all people, would call for peace and togetherness rather than strife and drama, please know that you are not the first to make that observation. And perhaps my tune would be different if we were in strong enough a position that a particularly aggressive flu strain could not effect a complete genocide of our people. Regardless, however, the children need us, and they need us at our best. Any graces I still possess, whatever virtues have stuck with me through the winding path I have walked to where I am now, are due to the relationships I have formed with my students. We wage battle and suffer losses in the hopes that our successors will thrive, that we may offer future mutants a world where none of them have to suffer as we have suffered. This place, for all its faults, is a reprieve from that. And whatever path each of us may walk down, it is our responsibility to keep it that way.
I hope not to be the only one to bear that responsibility.
And the first of you insufferable bastards to make some clever comment will wake tomorrow believing themselves to be a twelve-year-old with very specific opinions about My Little Pony. Don't test me.
