The swarm of Darkspawn seemed to fill the pathway ahead, crowding into one another and around the thick trunk of a nearby tree. Lillie wasn't sure what it was they were doing to the tree, but Conlan was wading into them like some sort of mad.... idiot and she was gritting her teeth to prevent shouting at him to come back.
Instead she summoned a spell, the magic tingling at her fingers. It was a powerful spell, and it would leave her drained for a moment after she cast it, sapping her of her energy, but no matter how immune to poisoned blood Conlan was, he was still vulnerable to injury, and he was taunting the Darkspawn as they crowded around him. Somewhere off to her side Faer was casting spells too, and she could see the glitter of magic in the air.
Targeting the area around Conlan Lillie cast Mass Paralysis, which would affect any targets that did not resist within a twenty-five yard radius around the warrior. A few of the monsters did indeed freeze in place, others continued their attack. But the magic had drawn attention, and many of the Darkspawn peeled off, some racing towards the casters at the rear, others skirting around the sides, and still more diving at the first combatant they could find.
Their hideous bodies crushed through the underbrush, inhuman noises gurgling out of them. Lillie could smell them now, like a wave of fetid death. It reminded her of the siege, only without the ash and fire. Now that the magic had left her, she was momentarily weakened, and let out a small sound, raising a hand to her forehead and blinking as if to clear her vision. She reached into her bag for a potion that would restore her energy, at least for a time.
