Conlan heard Faer say "explode," and decided the best idea was the charge forward. He needed to hold them, he was the only one who was immune to the taint, and could take the amount of punishment that would be dished out if overwhelmed. Not that Con had any doubts in the skills of the warriors amongst them, he just wanted to make sure they weren't fighting darkspawn in six on one fights.
One of the spawn broke from the pack and charged him, but an arrow whistled from behind him, and struck the creature, causing it to drop to the ground. His spring brought him right up to the one that Faer had singled out. Con swung his shield up, slamming into its chest. His worn leather boots dug into the dirt, and he began pushing. He forced the creature backwards, and on all sides the darkspawn charged forward, around and past him. Once there was both distance and darkspawn between Conlan and the group, he pushed the monster off his shield, and brought his short sword up in a savage chop at the creatures neck. It wasn't enough to severe it's head, but more then enough to kill it. It stood there, for a moment, frozen between life and death as its head began to peel from its body, giving Conlan just enough time to bring up his shield before…
BOOM
An explosion cracked through the air of the woods, echoing off the tress. Suddenly the darkspawn who had surrounded him a moment ago were all lying on the ground. He wasn't sure how many were dead, and how many were injured, but it wouldn't be hard to give them a good stab to make sure.
Then he saw it; a shock of blonde hair high in the trees, one girl, all alone and for the time being, at the mercy of the darkspawn. Conlan sucked in a breath that was half concern, and half frustration. He had a job to do, and the group had their mission. If he moved to help her, he could endanger everyone. If she could hold out while they killed the rest of this horde, then they could grab her. If she couldn't… well one persons life was not worth the risk. It was better to stay together, stick to their tactics, and hope. That was what Conlan would do.
A full second after resolving to not to try and save the girl, Con muttered, "Son of a bitch." And took off running even further, trying to come up with a plan as he went.
A darkspawn came charging at him, sword at the ready, Con brought his shield down on it's wrist, with enough force to shatter the bones there, if darkspawn had bones. Then he snapped it up, across the monsters face, leaving it staggered but alive. Another one came from the opposite direction, swinging an axe at his head. Conlan sidestepped, and ducked under the swing. His sword slashed out, and caught it by the cheek, cleaving through most of its lower jaw. It did not seem to be any closer to being dead though.
Conlan wondered how he could get the girl down, and hold off the darkspawn. He needed something tall she could jump to, something that could let her move fast once she was down. Something like… a horse! Con noticed Jill galloping out of the corner of his eye and waved toward her. "JILL!" He pointed toward the girl in the tree with his sword. "GET THE GIRL! I'LL DRAW THEM OFF!" Suddenly a plan struck him, a way to help both the group and the girl. He moved in a direction perpendicular to the trees she was stuck in. If he could get the darkspawn to follow him, then the rest of the group could flank them and cut them down. He lifted his shield and sword up, slamming his sword against the face of his shield, making a loud *CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG* as he moved.
"COME AND GET IT!" He extended both arms out side wise invitingly. "COME ON YOU BIG SMELLY BASTARDS! DON'T YA KNOW GREY WARDEN MEAT IS TASTY?!! COME ON!! CONLAN IS DELICIOUS THIS TIME OF YEAR!!" And, with the darkspawn successfully taunted, Con hunkered down for the coming onslaught.
