Ordhan glanced behind him as Piers dismissed the elf, more out of reflex than surprise. When Piers began again, however, the man had his full attention. The question dissolved his reservations. He was no less nervous than before, but he could not deny Constans's father any news he could offer. Without taking his hands from his knees, Ordhan leaned forward: a slight motion, but he no longer looked like a man facing interrogation.
"I am afraid I did not meet Desiderio," he began. "Constans seemed well. He was...in good health, and seemed content." His eyes flicked reflexively away, but he pressed on. "Most of when I saw him was at the Keep's training grounds. He told me that he had some training in arms at the Circle Tower, and I was helping him continue that in case he was to leave the Keep with one of the companies. He is a fast learner," Ordhan added earnestly, glad that there was at least something he could say about his friend unrelated to his condition.
Ordhan drew a cautious breath. He had not come to worry Piers more than necessary, but he did ask for whatever could be told of his son. After a moment's debate Ordhan went on. "I am not sure if you already know this, but Constans is among those heading to Ostagar. It is not a safe route." Though the hands on his knees tensed and the line between his brows deepened, he spoke with the same low, calm voice as ever.
