Thais intended to keep her gaze focused on Bethen, awaiting an answer to what exactly the woman was doing. Perhaps it was inappropriate to demand an answer from the Warden in such a way, but Thais was familiar with using the attitude of a politically powerful Enchanter, almost to the point where it would be her downfall. Unfortunately, Thais was not aware of this potential negative result. She had yet to be put in her place or reprimanded by Bethen beyond the chaotic fight over Constans’.
When the wolf moved closer, Thais wrinkled her nose. As it sniffed her, she targeted a suspicious look at Bethen. Clearly, Bethen had control over the canine as it seemed to follow her without question. Thais considered that she should have asked Lucressia more about the behaviors of canines. Her body stiffened as the dog only continued to get closer, but she didn’t move away from it. She listened to Alderic’s reply absently, slowly bringing her gaze towards him. When his words were abruptly cut off by his own exclamation, Thais snapped her full attention towards the templar. Not realizing entirely what was going on, Thais took small, swift steps away in an almost skittering motion. Her pulse quickened. One hand outstretched in front of her, fingers fanned out to face the palm of her hand at the templar and the wolf. The other hand lightly reached for the staff at her back.
Then she realized what was going on... and reminded herself of where she was. Even though she calmed herself, steadying her breathing, her body only tensed up more. She lowered her hands to her sides, glancing around to see if others had noticed. An Enchanter raising her hands to a Templar was no minor action to happen in front of a Chantry, regardless of the reason. As Thais glanced around, the instant regret and guilt of her actions were apparent in her expression and body language. She kept her hands firmly at her sides, resolving not to move them for a few minutes. For a mage, the use of hands alone was a threatening gesture to those that didn’t understand.... and sometimes to those that did.
After Thais confirmed that she wasn’t about to be hauled off by Lothering Templars, the guilt in her expression faded away. The previous annoyance resurfaced and she focused it towards Bethen, “Control that dog. It is not even a mabari, so there is no reason for it to act like one.” She glanced over at Alderic, looking at the dented gauntlet, “Imagine if that had been a villager or a someone from the Chantry!” While Thais had no particular interest in Alderic, she realized the man had acted quickly to defend her. Thais brought a polite, but slightly forced smile to her lips, “Thank you, Templar Thearre.” She cleared her throat with a small *hem*, waiting to see if Bethen or Alderic had anything to say before she continued on with her thoughts. The woman kept her hands at her sides.
