Constans gently set down the cart as the party stalled, making certain that it was on level ground before releasing it. With no task to perform, he stood quietly with his hands hanging at his sides. From the intent way he watched the Templars at the fore of the group talk, it seemed he must be waiting for someone to make an official decision on whether the company would be staying before pulling the cart up into the clearing.
"You are welcome," came Constans' polite reply to Bethen's thanks, although he hardly seemed to know what he was being thanked for. He watched Bethen with the customary even, eerily placid expression of the Tranquil as she retrieved a tent and spoke to him again.
"I do not believe that I require anything, thank you. I am tired, but well."
He paused, and added in a manner he seemed to think diplomatic, "Certainly this journey has not been any more difficult for myself than for the rest of you. Life in the tower does not condition a mage to strenuous physical activity."
