bethen avilla ; the circle mage (bethe) wrote in thedas,
Though Bethen's notes looked nothing at all like Dee's, she had scribbled down a copious amount of words to the point where her hand was cramped. What had begun as shorthand quickly turned into a near transcription of every single thing the Warden-Commander had said (and this did include the phrase "drunk with madness", though she found it a very puzzling colloquialism that she'd never heard before -- maybe it was an Amaranthine term?). Instinct was, after attending a lecture, to head straight to the library and pour over every possible book in the Keep that could have further detail on the region they were traveling to, and the darkspawn, but the hours of daylight left were waning and she had a much more important goal to complete by its end, beyond simply packing. The gift from Aurin remained sitting on her desk (she had almost slept with it in her arms that night, but realized it was a very strange thing to do and set it aside) as a reminder that she owed him something in return.
Even a day after that awkward conversation (the details of which were hazy, except for a few physical memories that made her glad the templar wasn't in that room with them), Beth still had no idea what to give him. And for being a merchant's daughter, she wasn't particularly good at haggling with any of the local shopkeeps in town to determine the true value of her purchase; she could tell that certain items were overpriced, but didn't have the nerve to insist that she was right. She needed some kind of guide going into the town, especially since it would be her first time being able to leave the Keep unescorted, and who better than the most intrepid world traveler she'd ever met?
Finding directions to the sister's room were difficult -- the servants didn't know her name, and most of them didn't even seem to realize she was a member of the clergy at all. Even by physical description, they had a hard time recalling which brunette woman she was talking about (one of the kitchen staff did mention something about a missing cheese wheel and prime culprit, but none of that made sense to her). But she eventually found her way up the stairs and a few turns to the right and left, and wound up standing at the door to Dee's room. She watched the sister in silence for a moment, noting that she looked busy, and almost thought to turn around until she realized that she probably wouldn't mind.
The mage lifted a hand to tap on the wooden frame of the door, so as not to just go barging into the sister's space, calling to her quietly, "Hi Dee."
