The letter from Mathieu had arrived several days before but it was difficult to judge how long after that his brother would arrive. Thoresby Hall, which, considering its size, couldn't even really call itself a hall, had seemed colder lately. Knowing that one of his brothers would again be in attendence made the hall seem cold and empty while he waited. But word had just arrived of a lone man approaching from the east. The guards who had spotted him had rushed a messenger to their Bann, knowing he was waiting anxiously for his brother. Lukaer had been in his study, penning a reply to a near by Bann who had written to him asking if he had heard any new rumors of the this new Blight. Lukaer hadn't heard anything new, but hopefully, if everything went as planned, that would soon change.
When news had first reached him of a possible blight, he had sent off missives to all of his knights, asking for rumors or truths that they had heard or seen. No one in power was denying a Blight was coming, but no one would openly speak about it either. Lukaer had mentioned to Mathieu that if a Blight was coming, he wanted to be prepared and he wanted to fight. His brother had agreed and suggested that perhaps they should set off together? Lukaer, well-liked though he was, demanded the best from his knights and guards. There would be little worry if the two men set off chasing rumors and possibilities. Their mother had kept them out of the last Blight and they were, perhaps, overeager to fight in this one. Still, Lukaer would rather leave his bannorn in the capable hands on his knights and discover the truth than be caught unawares.
So he found himself running down to the gates that surrounded the little town of Aisling just as Mathieu was being let in. Lukaer wrapped his arms tightly around him. "Mathieu," he said, pulling back to get a good look at him. It had been nearly a year since he had last seen him. Not long compared to how long their little brothers had been gone from their lives, but still too long as far as Lukaer was concerned. "Welcome home."
