bethen avilla ; the circle mage (bethe) wrote in thedas,
It was certainly a great relief that Falina was so open and honest, even if such a demeanor was in stark contrast to the hypersensitive caution that Bethen exuded. The dwarven girl smiled, the knight smiled, and so the mage smiled, the tension in her shoulders and posture relaxing as the awkward moment passed. She nodded her head and listened to the exchange between the pair; Beth didn't know this Cormac -- was that the man they had been speaking of earlier when they arrived? -- but he sounded like a kind and generous fellow, if he was invested in taking a girl as sweet as Falina under his wing. She knew nothing else about him, though she had already decided she would like him for attempting to teach literacy.
"Of course, I'd be honored to sit down and have a discussion with you," replied Beth to the extended offer of learning about Falina's people. Even if she wasn't only recently exposed to an increased number of dwarves in her life, she would have been eager to learn about a life different from her own, no matter the background. That being the case, she turned to the man with just as much enthusiasm and bowed her head slightly, "And the same goes for you, Ser, though I confess that I might not have a lot to offer. Most of what I know of the world comes solely from a book." Again, she was making assumptions, but surely a knight of Ferelden would have actually had the opportunity to see and do things for himself. Her recount of someone else's recollection would likely be dull in comparison.
"There isn't a lot much else to do within the Tower besides read," she added somewhat sheepishly, "But if there's a particular subject you're looking for, I can certainly recommend titles that are both accessible and informative. Or...books that you might simply find enjoyable. I am," she paused, brow had furrowed as she remembered to correct herself, "I used to be something of a librarian there." Or what unkind apprentices and colleagues called a 'nerd', but that was the past. All of that was behind her now. It was still sinking in how soon and how drastically their lives would be changing.
