bethen avilla ; the circle mage (bethe) wrote in thedas,
Beth watched Brannan and Mirelle flirt with curiosity; the Orlesian woman was, naturally, far better at being charming and composed than she was. As she listened to their exchange she felt removed from the situation, an observer in a social experiment. There was...some kind of innuendo in what Mirelle was saying, wasn't there? The easy exchange was fascinating. Her impression of Orlais had been formulated primarily in books and by the few magi who had come from their Circle, such as Enchanter Durand, so it was even more interesting to get what she presumed to be insight on the workings of people in their court in person. Between the three of them, Beth was the only commoner, though everyone had been incredibly polite and surprisingly interested in her life (instead of fearful as the Chantry would have her believe). She was surprised when the younger lord's attention returned to her.
She hardly thought there was anything suggestive about what Brannan said to her until Coan seemed suddenly irritated by his cousin. Hadn't Brannan been interested in Mirelle? The thought of flirting with both of them at the same time seemed...odd, though Beth wasn't exactly the best judge of these things. She maintained a pleasant smile toward everyone, though her brow was drawn together in uncertainty. Bethen hardly wanted to offend Brannan by denying him a good conversation, but she didn't want to make Coan uncomfortable, either. She shrugged, "Oh, well... I don't mind. I had been looking for you and Noa, actually. To give you these." The mage fished the small pouch of dog biscuits out of her pocket; this caught Noa's attention, but she stood still as the bag changed hands and none of the crunch wound up in her greedy maw. She whimpered sadly.
"I also wanted to see how your journey had gone. I'll understand if you two are exhausted, though, it must have been such a long trip," Beth nodded at both Coan and Mirelle, not knowing the exact route they had taken on their way, but she knew they had at least made it to Orzammar, and if she had overheard correctly, picked up a few Dalish elves, as well. She wanted desperately to meet them, though there would be time for that later. Brannan's suggestion, even when laced with ulterior motive, was a good one. "But if you have the time and the energy to humor my company, I wouldn't mind at all."
Getting bored and impatient with all of this people talking, Noa had started to wander off to the side, sniffing at the ground. She had caught some kind of trail that was worth investigating, but she knew she couldn't stray too far from her master. Or from those treats that were still in her favorite mage-person's pockets. Pausing, she spun around to look at the small group of humans, and whined softly to urge them to follow her. Beth couldn't help but laugh a little, though it was warm and sympathetic. "Either way, it seems like someone here needs to go for a walk."
