"Well, it didn't go very well," Jill said, shifting her eyes around even though Lillie could not actually see her face. Biting her lip she thought back to that day, it had been sunny and the grass had smelt nice. "I tried to start out easy with lounging," she began, hesitating a moment for what to say next, before realising that even that one term might be unknown to Lillie. "Um, it's when you put the horse on a long leash, and let it run in a large circle around you. It's fairly simple, but, um, she didn't like it very much I think..." Jill considered that time a failed attempt at turning another person into as much of a horse lover as she was herself, and it frustrated her that the attempt had failed so spectacularly.
"You're not nervous, are you?" she asked Lillie suddenly, not because she was picking up any special feeling from her, but because recalling that one time at Highever made Jill nervous that Lillie wouldn't like horseback riding either. Twisting around in the saddle - a manoeuvre quite guaranteed to make Lillie nervous - she tried to see Lillie's face, but it was impossible without accidentally pushing her out of the saddle. Turning back, Jill bit her lip and looked down at the road under Salma's hooves.
"Yes, it is strange," she said easily, mood lifting as she could not but appreciate the little things that seemed so odd to her, but was quite natural to the rest of the group. "At least it's not so strange sleeping in a tent now," she said. "Perhaps sometime it will seem natural to walk too. Is this better than walking on your feet, d'you'think?"
