Backscene: The dangers of inattention Who: Jill Sorrel and Arja Serik Where: The Brecillian Forest, just outside of Gwaren When: 9:39, late summer Summary: A brief note to oneself: Horses are not deer. Rating: PG In progress
Just because she'd been hunting in the forest with them for two years, didn't mean they could just leave her on her own!
Arja, sat mumbling to herself in the relative camouflage of leaves and branches. Being in a tree was also not on her list of fun things to do. But when you topped out at 4'2” and were in charge of some of the hunting, standing on the ground of a forest didn't exactly offer up the best vantage point. And okay, maybe she was out there on her own because she hadn't exactly been 'contributing' like she should have. But it wasn't her fault that a tune had wound its way into her thoughts while they'd been out on the last hunt. And there was a small, small, chance that she may have alerted or frightened away some of their game with her incessant humming, but really after so long they should have been used to it.
So it was, 'Go out and catch a rabbit at the very least Arja.' Sadly, it wasn't the first time she'd heard those words and knowing her luck, it wouldn't be the last. At least they'd been nice enough to send her out with rations. Bored already, she munched on a hunk of hard bread while letting her eyes scan the deep foliage of the forest in summer. Her mother's... well hers now, anyhow, the crossbow she used was tucked safely at her side. Empty of a bolt and with the leather belt of its shoulder strap wrapped carefully around her hand. Dropping it from so high would be... unfortunate.
With a careless shrug, she sighed and gave the forest floor another sweep. If something didn't happen soon she could just keel over from boredom. And then they'd never get their sodding rabbit or deer or whatever other creature she could find. So Arja did the only thing she could to combat the boredom, she began humming herself a tune. If it made her just a touch distracted... well that was the price they paid for leaving her on her own.
