The sudden voice had Seda’s head snapping up, jaw clicking shut as the blood drained from her face. Hands fell limply to her side, earlier joy forgotten in the face of sheer panic. Her left foot slid backwards followed seconds later by her right as she scrambled away from the human standing before her.
Body wracked with tremors she stood a few paces away, practically petrified, and entirely unsure of what to do. A part of her wanted desperately to just turn tail and run but Seda had never been a coward. Biting at her lip her eyes flickered from the human’s face to the ground and back again. Finally her shoulder slumped with a sigh and, fingers twisting nervously at the fraying edges of her tunic, she took a step closer.
Dipping her chin shallowly in greeting she offered a shaky smile, gaze drifting away to look at the comforting sight of Salma. “Yes. I hope you don’t mind. She seemed interested.” Cursing under her breath, hair swaying as she shook her head, she turned back to Jill. “I mean it’s nice to meet you… Sorry.”
Rocking back on her heels, still fighting the urge to just run back home even if Kosta and Batson were there waiting for her, she nodded. “Yes…Sometimes. I mean,” stuttering she bit her lip and glared down at the ground. Breathing out, cheeks puffing up, she tried again. “I mean to say I have a home here but we leave sometimes so I only live here occasionally.” Plucking at a loose thread she took another careful step forward, trembling arm reaching out to rest on Salma’s neck. “Do you both live here as well?”
