When we watch cartoon cartoons, I'm happy as can be. (Open to Leah)
It was hardly as though this city was unaware that there was a lion pride in it, now. With Dane and Tanya making waves business-wise, and the rest of them making waves in pretty much every other arena available, you'd have to be under a rock to not have heard of the Seghers. It probably didn't help that they'd made the news once or twice from just wandering around the parks and streets in full lion form. It was something Claudia had them do in Africa, and now Dane apparently was thinking it would be good for Denver, too. It served its purpose well enough though, and if it brought some notoriety, it at least also got across the message that they weren't a group that was afraid of making a scene, or resorting to using their powers if they felt like it.

It was some of the same reasoning behind Aeryn's appearance in the park that day, in his lion form. He was actually on the smaller size, for his breed, but it still made him larger than a vast majority of males. Barbary lions were all but extinct now, due in part to said size, and tended to somewhat dwarf others. Aeryn was only twelve feet long (including his tail, of course), but even then it was impressive compared to most animals. Especially compared to humans. Which was exactly the point. He wanted other things in the park -- prospective babysitter included -- to be aware that he could bite their arm off without worry.

Aislyn, princess that she was, was sitting atop his shoulders, her hands in his mane, looking completely nonplussed by the situation. As Aeryn got to where he was supposed to meet the bear-owl-human, he shifted with a flash, catching Aislyn in his arms as his human form reappeared. She took the shift in stride, settling against his side as he rested her against a hip, looking at his appointment. He, of course, didn't bother trying to Americanize his accent.

"Are you Leah?"

Was it possible to verbalize a keysmash? If any person on Earth were capable, it was Leah. And not only was it just an alien gurgle bursting out of her throat, oh no: Leah keysmashed with everything she had. As soon as she saw the lion padding around the park (and just the lion; every other creature had gotten the fuck out), Leah fell apart. The small stack of children's books and references in her hands clattered around her knees as her ankles seemed to suddenly be unable to carry her weight. If her reflexes hadn't been so quick, she probably would have fallen flat on her face, flailing like she was trying to swim through the pavement. First impressions, they were clearly her forte. Had she been able to scream "WTF LION" right at that moment, she probably would have. It was one thing to know your employer was a werelion; another thing entirely to see them in the flesh.

She picked up her dropped things hurriedly and, with as much grace as she could manage (which was more than she'd had a few weeks before, now that her agility was starting to perfect itself; not that Leah knew -- for all she was aware, she was still gangling along like a beanpole with mechanical limbs), headed towards where Aeryn was prowling around, a bouncing baby on his back. She pushed her hair behind her ear too many times, and briefly considered transforming and flying off without ever having said hello.

"H-Hello," she said instead, when Aeryn changed in front of her. It was an effort not to gulp, however harmless he looked as a man. "That's me. I mean, yes, I'm Leah. It's. It's nice to meet you."

Pure intimidation -- while definitely a part of it -- wasn't the only reason that he'd come in his lion form for her to see. He knew that at least Dane, if not more of the pride, would be trying to intimidate her in much the same way, to see if she could handle watching their cub. She was, after all, an outsider in any number of ways, and they were a very insular group.

He watched her for a moment, taking her in. He didn't have the nose of a wolf, but he knew the stink of hyenas, and she didn't have it on her. Which was good, for her, as if she'd been lying about that part then it was questionable if she'd be leaving the park in one piece. Being a lion -- and, perhaps, persons like Dane herself -- had rubbed off on him over the years. There was something almost regal about the way that he inspected her, and while he wasn't the sort to ever say that he was better than the next person, something about how he carried himself said it for him. Sorry, Leah.

However, after that moment, something in him relaxed just slightly. He gave a nod. "It's nice to meet you too. My name's Aeryn Morgan -- we spoke on the journals?" Aislyn was holding onto her father's shirt with a hand, a pacifer in her mouth as she watched Leah calmly. Aeryn looked at her and smiled, his entire demeanor lightening. "And this is Aislyn." SAY HI AISLYN. ...Or not, she was sort of a quiet kid, and seemed content to just lean against Aeryn's shoulder and watch Leah. At least she wasn't dissecting her with her eyes?

As far as proud people went, Leah had had her fill. Her manager and his insane arrogant posturing aside, Katie held herself with the same sort of regal air and understated holier-than-thou that Aeryn seemed to have -- though hers, Leah had always assumed, stemmed from being of a rare strain of therianthrope, and moreover able to fly. If Leah had felt anything like pride for what she was, she probably would have carried her chin a little higher too.

As it was, she merely smiled lopsidedly, as if one side of her mouth was still uncertain what it wanted to do. Her hand wavered stiffly at her side like she was going to lift it to shake, but thought better of it. Fortunately enough, Aislyn's quiet manner of regarding her seemed to calm Leah. Strange? Sure. Most people immediately pitched into cooing fits and/or couldn't act normally if a kid was in the picture, let alone a baby staring them down. But Leah seemed to slide right into her element, and leaned slightly over to give Aislyn a friendly, un-patronizing smile. Her attention shifted abruptly, and for all she was concerned, Aeryn was hardly more than a pillar for her charge to hang on. "Hi, Aislyn. It's nice to meet you, too." Not that she expected the girl to respond, of course. "Your dad tells me you like to color?" How convenient, your sitter brought a Lion King coloring book with her. Because she was thoughtful that way.

Yeah, Leah's manager could go blow himself. It was all about the breed (pardon the pun!). Of course, by that token Leah should be a bookworm who is also ~skilled and deadly~, but maybe that would come with time. And she was already friends with a Pooh bear, so that was a step in the right direction.

For what it was worth though, Aeryn liked what he saw of her. Unobtrusive, unthreatening, calm. Nervous, yes, but that was to be expected really, when you had a lion wandering up to you. Granted, a bear might not have the same reaction, but wary respect would likely go over better with the pride than some sort of arrogance assuming equality with their animals. He was already sort of vaguely dreading how Dane would try to intimidate this girl, though. Maybe he could keep the two apart after Dane had met her pre-Halloween.

More importantly, he liked Leah's reaction to Aislyn. Not overly loud, not getting into her face, and not talking down to her like she was still an infant. Aislyn watched her for a moment, before her eyes moved over to things that Leah had brought. There was a beat, before she reached up to take out her pacifer and pointed at the things there. "Dada." LION KING HI! It's pretty much one of her favorite movies ever, thanks. It made her grin and laugh happily, showing off a growing in tooth or three. She reached out to pass the pacifier off to Leah, before starting to reach for the things that she'd brought. Aeryn set her down on the bench for easier access.

"Her mother wants to meet you before you start, too." Oh ho, Dane Segher. That'll be pleasant.

Leah Turner: wallflower by day, ninja huntress by night?

As for what the parents thought of her -- well, it was something Leah fortunately didn't think too much about. She was natural with kids, much more than she was with the rest of the world; treating Aislyn like a child instead of an infant was just a matter of course. She sat down in the corner of the bench, pulling out the Lion King coloring book from the stack and a pack of crayons from her purse.

And then nearly dropped them when Aeryn mentioned meeting Aislyn's mother. Oh, she remembered her, their idle conversation on the journals that had led to Dane's unabashed and, as Leah thought, uncalled for insulting of her mother. Her dead mother, to add insult to injury. Not that Dane would know it was her, of course; but Leah would, and that was enough. She shifted the pascifer from hand to hand.

"Oh, well. That's. That's to be expected." And terrified of.
