The Alley RPG - OOC Comm

First of all, I apologise for disappearing again and I just wanted to let you know that I will be gone the next few days. Yesterday, my best mate and I headed to Tampa where we will very shortly be heading off to the Jonas Brothers concert *squee!* and tomorrow, I will be getting all my crap ready to hop the plane Saturday morning for Tokyo. It's a 20 hour flight, so I won't actually get there until Sunday afternoon GMT+9 where I will be until December. So I will be back and ready to go probably Monday. Which I guess would be Sunday for most of you? Ah. I'll figure out this whole timezone thing at some point. ;)

Amy - Sorry! I haven't forgot about the Michael/Terry thread. I will get back to it asap!

Also, if anyone wants to plot/thread/etc, just leave me a comment and we can work things out when I get back!

So, if you couldn't tell from the flier posted in the main comm, the costume party is going to be this coming Sunday (the 7th) from 8PM to whenever. Costumes are required, and there will be prizes rewards (most original, best male/female costume, etc). There will be drinks and food and fun. Entertainment will be a performance by Katie and the Dolls! In the times when Katie isn't performing, there will be karaoke also.

This is a great opportunity for everyone to get their characters out and involved and having fun! Feel free to use the comments below to make thread plans. Also, if everyone could please comment below and let us know if their characters are coming and if so what costumes they are wearing. This will make it easier for people to mention who is and isn't there, and also what costumes they're wearing of course.

Hello all! So we're currently at the point with the spot on the barrier when anyone who touches it gets a sick buzz that gets progressively worse depending on how long you touch it. (More info on the last plot post).

Would anyone be up for doing a solo to illustrate this? First come, first serve! As in, comment below?

Welcome to the second plot post at The Alley! Please make sure to read all the way through, and comment below to let us know that you've read us, and to share your plot plans.

As you know from the end our last plot post, and from the Lucius solo thread, Lucius Malfoy and several of his cronies have made an attack on the barrier in a small alley between two buildings at the very end of Knockturn Alley. The only evidence of their attack (for now) is a Quaffle-sized black spot on the barrier (which will be discovered in a solo thread by Seamus Finnigan!)

Our main plot for the next couple weeks focuses on that spot. The progression of events will go as such:

August 24th - 26th: Gradually, tendrils of darkness start to spread out from the center of the black spot.

August 27th - 30th: It slowly becomes dangerous to touch the dark spot. If you just lightly press a finger to it for a second, it gives off an uncomfortable buzz. If you press your finger/hand against it, it gradually turns from an uncomfortable buzz to a stronger and stronger sting of pain. And if you were idiotic enough to keep your hand there, it would knock you out from the pain.

August 30th: Kingsley has a meeting with some curse-breakers about the spot, how it might have happened, and what they should do about it. (Played via a thread with Fiona Macfusty?)

August 31st - September 2nd: The air around the dark spot begins to change. First it emits a sort of sick feeling to anyone around it (you now longer just have to touch it to feel it), and gradually the air nearby begins to darken until it is noticeably dim and shadowy at the end of Knockturn.

September 3rd: Kingsley makes an announcement (solo thread), warning people to stay away from the end of Knockturn and that its very dangerous.

September 4th-8th: People begin to notice plants that the darkness touches are dying. Anyone who gets too close to that end of Knockturn become ill. Fiona, who is investigating the spot, decides to isolate the area by setting up a magical barrier around it. Unfortunately, this small barrier touches against the large barrier around the Alley and soon begins to act like it. At first, no one knows this, until a stray chicken from the coop of a nearby cafe manages to walk right through the small barrier-- and is trapped inside. The chicken slowly sickens until it is near death. Kingsley sets up a blockade a safe distance away, stopping people from going further down Knockturn. Two Alley Patrol members are posted as guards. Kingsley has an idea that Lucius Malfoy and his cronies are involved. At first, Lucius denies any involvement. Once things get worse, he admits involvement, but refuses to say what curses he's used. Finally, Fiona manages to diagnose the problem and fixes the barrier.

A small number of characters can participate in this plot in one of the following ways:

- Be one of the people who touches the wards from the 27th-30th. (One-Two people).
- Be one of the people who ignores the warnings and wanders to inspect the spot, only to begin feeling sick or ill. (One-Three people).

Let us know if you want your characters to be involved in this, and we'll see if we can work it in! Of course, your characters are always welcome to write about it on their journals, or wander by in curiosity. Other than that, the only plot is that we'll probably have Kingsley make an announcement soon on the progress of the breaking of the barrier (or lack of progress).

It is required that everyone comments below so that we know you have read this plot post. Also, comment and let us know what your plans are for your characters, and feel free to use the comments below to make thread plans.

In closing, if any of you are thinking about taking on new characters, or know anyone who might want to join the game, we are definitely looking for Harry Potter and Bill Weasley. We are also in need of some more Ravenclaws, our Most Wanted of those are: Cho Chang, Luna Lovegood, Marietta Edgecombe, Anthony Goldstein and Roger Davies. Um, and some Slytherin boys would be nice as well. Our Slytherin girls need someone to flirt with! (Pansy: *cough*BLAISEZABINI*cough*).

OK HI,

I saw you were in need of some Ravenclaws, eh? Well here you are: one Lisa Turpin! Lisa comes equipped with brown eyes and hair, minimum breastage, a 5'7 frame, and no real job. She used to be an Obliviator but shes rather restless and just up and quit a couple months ago. Stupid girl, right? I highly recommend her survey for all the info you need, but here is some more tidbits:

Lisa is loud, obnoxiously so at times, active always (this includes jogging and Quidditch), she was a Ravenclaw chaser for most of her time at Hogwarts (Michael backstory time!), and is currently staying at the Leaky shes unemployed after all--. She is trying to rangle a good friend into sharing a flat with her since they are stuck here. She is good for it--she swears! Also, her family owns a wizarding sports bar in the Alley named the Snitch

I actually need to talk to a mod about that to make sure it is ok and run details by them. If one is on, do tell!

Hello all!

I'm new here, my name's Mon and I would like to introduce Eleanor Branstone. She's a Hufflepuff from the class of 2001, which means she's 21. After a gap year she landed an internship at a Dragon Preserve and is working to become a Magizoologist. She is a rather extroverted, social person, very adventurous and fun-seeking. 

Her survey's up in her journal. I haven't actually formatted the journal yet but my eyes are sorta bleeding from formatting the survey and I've had just about enough of coding for today, so prettifying her journal will happen tomorrow. Her pb is Georgia Moffett (I have been on a Doctor-Who-character kick of late) but I am still at work so I can't make banners or upload icons lest I get yelled at by our IT guy again.

Hello everyone! It's Amy, your mod (and player of Pansy, Katie and Lilith). I'm coming to you with my fourth and final character. Since we needed men, and desperately needed Ravenclaws, I have taken on Terry Boot.

Terry Boot is a very quiet, neat and organized fellow. He is the Assistant to the Minister of Magic and thus if you want to speak to Minister Shacklebolt, you'll have to speak to him first. Terry likes to read and he really likes to organize things (although that's more of a obsession than a hobby). To people he has never met, Terry comes off as very quiet and serious. To his friends he is much more outgoing and friendly. You can read more about him at his survey: RIGHT HERE!

I would love to thread with anyone who wants a thread! Terry would know anyone who was in the D.A. of course, and probably anyone who works with the Ministry. I'd especially like a thread with his mate Michael Corner, and maybe Mandy Brocklehurst, because they were in the same year?

Just thought I'd let you know, so there is no surprise, that I've changed Lilith's PB. I liked Anna Friel, but not enough, and it was hard to find icons of her. So thanks to my co-mod's permission, Lilith's new PB is Laura Prepon!

Hi, I'm Nijhia ;d

I posted on the introduction post really late, I figured nobody checked it out. I play Millicent Bulstrode. She's not the girl she used to be, but still is partially. She succumbs to peer pressure to not deal with confrontation of people she cares about. Although, in her later years, she didn't do that and outcasted herself in a way.

She's still grumpy and can be a jerk sometimes, but it's more on her own time than people trying to get her to. I believe I have her written up as being Pansy's wingman, lol.

Zacharias is twenty-four going on twenty-five, former Hufflepuff Chaser, and currently unemployed (and HOMELESS). His homelessness is due to the fact that he and his dear old dad don't get on so well, and Zacharias is a bum. But he's got a hold on his inheritance! Thus, he was in the Alley the day it happened, looking for a place to live and a job. He found a place to live, of course, but will remain woefully unemployed.

He's still just as much of a skeptical, question-all, sarcastic jerk that he's always been. Also he enjoys flirting with girls. Particularly girls that already have boyfriends. He's kind of rude. His character survey can be found here, ignore the obnoxious coloring, I'm still spiffing it up!

Alright, this is Beth and since I noticed that we were low on Hufflepuffs and Males, as well as the fact that I wanted to take up another character, I want to introduce to you my fourth and final character for this game - Ernie Macmillan.

About Ernie, he's still a bit bossy and arrogant (but that's toned down since the final battle). Um, he works for the Improper Use of Magic at the Ministry of Magic and obviously remains in close contact with his friends. He's still a stickler for the rules and enjoys tea as well as books. Now, for the surprising thing. He's not going to be in the Alley the day of the event, rather he's going to be one of those who is "drawn in."

Hello everyone! Welcome to the first official plot post at The Alley RPG! As you know, the game is opening this coming Sunday, so it's time to fill everyone in on what is happening. Please read through the post and then comment below so we know you've read it and also so that everyone can make plot plans.

August 10th, 2004

Wizards around Britain will feel a strange pull drawing them to Diagon Alley, London. A few will manage to resist the pull, but many will not. And at 3:00pm on the dot, it happens. The ground shakes just like an earthquake and in the midst of the ground tremors, a loud "BOOM" echoes around Diagon Alley. This loud noise is the sound of a barrier forming around them. The witches and wizards in the Alley do not know it yet, but they are trapped and there is no way out. Around the entirety of the Alley (including Knockturn Alley and up over the top) is a bubble of a shield. It is semi-visible and shining. Those trapped inside will soon discover that it is not possible to apparate out of the Alley. If someone tries, they will disappear for a second only to bounce right back down and reappear where they were standing before. The same goes for Flooing. If one wanted to, they could Floo to buildings inside the alley, but if one tries to Floo out, they will spin around and exit right out the fireplace they came into.

The Minister of Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt, who is present in Diagon Alley at the time of the attack, takes control of the panicked crowd and starts organizing groups of strong witches and wizards to help them try to break out. Anyone on this "Ward Squad" will spend their day casting spells at the barrier to either break through it, or to figure out what it is. Most people seem to think that the Minister will take care of it, but soon night starts to fall and they're still stuck. People have to arrange for places to stay, such as the Leaky Cauldron. Shop owners who live above their shops might open up their extra rooms to friends and such who need somewhere to stay. Either way it is quickly becoming clear that this is a problem.

August 14th, 2004

After several days of trying to break through the wards, the witches and wizards trapped inside start to realise they aren't getting out, at least not anytime soon. Minister Shacklebolt makes a speech about arrangements and what people are going to do (this will be done in a solo lod, probably). He announces the opening of the building of flats, Libertas Flats, and urges everyone who can afford it to move in.

Kingsley will also begin talking about ways to grow food and such. Some restaurant owners have their own gardens and Kingsley will also ask several people in the crowd to volunteer to start gardens in the open field at the end of the Alley.

The Ministry claims a nearby abandoned shop (next to Gringotts) as their base of operation. Kingsley sets up a group of people known as the "Ward Reversal Squad" whose job it is to keep trying to break through the wards. He also arranges the "Alley Patrol Squad", a group of hitwizards (etc) whose job it is to patrol the Alley and make sure no one is panicking, etc. (Led by Gawain Roberts and includes Aurors such as John Dawlish, Proudfoot and Savage.) Their will also be a Medical Headquarters set up in the building on the other side of Gringotts for anyone who is injured for whatever reasons.

August 17th, 2004

Lucius Malfoy begins to start rumblings of dissent amongst the occupants of The Alley. He and his followers want to know: Why should Shacklebolt be in charge? Why should we trust his word that there really isn't a way out?

Within a few days, Lucius gathers a group of supporters around him, several of which include people rumoured to have been Death Eaters, including: Thorfinn Rowle, Randolph Jugson, Thornton Selwynn, Alden Yaxley, Radulf Goyle Sr and Brevis Crabbe Sr. Anyone who he thinks might be sympathetic to his cause will likely be approached and "talked to". Lucius' group of followers seem to be spending most of their time in and around Knockturn Alley. Their headquarters is the large building in Knockturn which is close to Libertas

August 22nd, 2004

Lucius and his supporters make their own attempts to break through the barrier at the end of Knockturn Alley, hurling curses and other Dark Magic to no avail. The wards do not break and they appear to have accomplished nothing except that the spot they hit turns from a light shimmery color to a dark almost black. No one will notice at first that this has occurred, unless they happen to be wandering around Knockturn at the time. The end of that Alley is far enough away from the main Alley that nothing can be heard.
