New to InsaneJournal.
I've had about 5 journals previous to this one...on lj and xanga. I keep a journal in books, I'm on volume 8 after two years.
I'm in a stage of my life for new things, so I figured...why not.

When I lived in CT, before moving here (to Istanbul), I frequented a coffee shop by the name of Molten Java. I miss the friends I met there along with the memories I made. However, now that I'm in a city where I can't seem to find a cafe that can compare...I guess I'll be here for a while. I'm the girl on the couch writing in a small moleskin notebook, drinking extra sweet coffee and occasionally going outside for a smoke. Anyone willing to strike up a conversation with me?

And, one question, I went through some of the pre-made layout communities on lj and picked out of fer. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to change the CCS for my journal on this site. Point me in the right direction, if you're able.

Hello and goodbye for now. :)

I like Doctor Who. But I will never, ever join its fandom. Why? Because I find being in fandom to be insane and can ruin the fun of watching a show or reading a book.

What show, movie, or book will you not join the fandom because of the fear of fandom?

Moving out, living in the hills. [April 19, 2008 @ 1:11pm]

devotfeige
Hey everybody~ Joined a while back because I thought this looked like a fun little place. Seemed like a good way to redirect random thoughts and things, to keep from flooding people with bizarre thoughts throughout the day.

So I just recently moved out of the house and in with my grandparents, all the way across the country. I'm used to moves, seeing as how I grew up an Army brat, but something about taking the cat and moving in with people I hardly know seems like a rather big step out the door. *laughs*

Anyone care to share experiences with moving out, or living with extended family in backwoods towns where everyone asks why your hair's too long/short and you've only got an earring in one ear? ;)

Earthquake! [April 18, 2008 @ 6:27am]

[ mood | surprised ]

So, who here felt the earthquake centered near Evansville, Indiana this morning? Was it your first earthquake? Any earthquake veterans among us?

I basically woke up to my bed moving when I was the only one lying in it. It was a pretty odd sensation, really. My partner was already awake and doing stuff on the computer in the living room. We weren't close enough to have any damage. A couple unbreakable things fell from shelves. That's about it.

I've lived in the St. Louis Metro East my entire life and this is the first earthquake I've ever felt. Pretty wild.

Little kit-kitteh little kit-kitteh little kit-kitteh little kit-kitteh... [April 12, 2008 @ 7:04pm]

O hai guise,
(ok I'll stop)
I was just wondering if any of you other lovely people have pet cats. I do, I have two of them, both are annoying as hell sometimes.

Large grey one will follow me everywhere, hell bent on tripping me. Small black and white one is an alarm clock. At two in the morning.

For your time:

What is your favorite passtime?

Mine's looking at other people's art and drawing my own randomness.

What do you hatedislike most about travel?

I get so irked/annoyed/rawrtastic/insert choice words here when there are delays caused by an airport or airline fubar, not the weather. And while I know why the 3 ounce liquid rule is in place for carry-on bags, I find it rather vexing that a lot of companies still sell some of the most popular liquids in 4 ounce bottles or tubes.

What do you associate your music with? Do you sometimes have strange memories when listening to something completely unrelated? Is it hard to listen to some songs because of it?

I can't listen to The Darkness without remembering fights between my mom and stepfather, for example, because that's what I listened to to drown them out. Also, I associate the Britney Spears song Toxic with Digimon, which never fails to bring the lulz.

"Oh, that show!" [March 31, 2008 @ 8:56pm]

prairiecrow
Hello, all:

Is there a particular TV show that you watch, frequently or occasionally, in spite of yourself? A show that makes you want to throw things at the screen, yet at the same time you can't look away?

For me, that show is Intervention on A&E. I tune in knowing that it's going to be a train wreck. Nine times out of ten the people involved are foolish, or willfully ignorant, or appallingly selfish, or all of the above at the same time. Many times the attempt to clean up their act is doomed to fail. And yet I find myself unable to look away from the emotional carnage. Intervention is the show that I put on the studio TV if I'm exhausted and I really need something to goad me into reacting.

How about you?

Obsessions... cute, fun, bordering on unhealthy, psychotic? [March 30, 2008 @ 9:00pm]

hicsiguy
Everyone has at least one obsession, sometimes we don't even know we have them.

Obviously mine is CSI, lol. I know about mine. It's fun and borders on unhealthy.

What about everyone else? What are your obsessions?

Three interests, and... go! [March 28, 2008 @ 3:47pm]

prairiecrow
If you could pick three of the interests in your profile, which do you feel would be the most entertaining to explain?

For me, it would have to be...

1) Gigolo Joe. Ah, Jude Law, how beautiful you are. A.I.: Artificial Intelligence was the first movie where I really sat up and took notice of Mr. Law -- he was cheery, saucy, graceful, gorgeous, and, at the end, unexpectedly touching. (You can hear some sound clips of Gigolo Joe here.)

2) Neo/Smith. What can I say? Enemy-sex is TEH HAWT. It doesn't hurt that Keanu Reeves is almost androgynously lovely and Hugo Weaving has enough charisma to sink the Titanic. *purrs*

3) Science fiction conventions. When I was a fan I spake as a fan, I understood as a fan, and I thought as a fan; but when I became a pro I put away fannish things -- almost. I still enjoy attending our city's annual sci fi con. People wandering the hallways in full costume, hospitality suites serving delicious food and giving away free stuff, panels on various interesting subjects, an art show and a dealers room to spend money in... and friends from the States that I only see once a year. Keycon will be running for four days this year in honor of its 25th anniversary, and I plan to be there for the whole thing.

So! It is one A.M. where I am, and I'm thirsty. I'm also trying to get to sleep, so I don't want to drink any more soda, and I'm out of milk.

What should I do?

-Try this 'green tea' thing that people keep giving me teabags of.
-Brave the lemonade.
-Pour out the lemonade and try my hand at making Kool-Aid (grape or lemon-lime are my options.)
-Break out the hot chocolate.
-Stop acting like I'm too good for tap water.
-Just have more soda, it isn't like I won't be up all night anyway.

Mine would have to be some of Brain Froud's artwork.

This is my favorite:

How we work and how we play [March 26, 2008 @ 4:31pm]

prairiecrow
Almost everybody has some sort of paying job. If they don't have a paying job, they'll often have a hobby or vocation that fulfills them.

What sort of work do you do? What do you do for a hobby? Are the two similar, or very different? How did you come to be in your present job and to practice your present hobby?

Green! [March 26, 2008 @ 4:08pm]

So.

A lot of focus has been placed on "green" methods and on environmental preservation and conservation.

Do you think these methods will help, or are we too late to remedy the damage already done?
