History of the Resistance
<-Editor’s note – the following document was ‘found’ by Cassandra Turner, our intrepid investigative journalist, on one of her many forays into the seedy underworld and the so-called ‘Human Resistance’. Facts obviously cannot be verified, but it’s believed to come from the pen of their self-appointed leader. We leave it to you, dear readers, to decide whether it’s an elaborate fiction… ->
History of the Resistance Mark I
Once upon a time…
… yeah, that’s not how it started. But anyway.
There were a bunch of us, and we decided to slay vampires for a living. I guess that’s what it boils down. Somehow each of us ended up finding out that humans weren’t alone, fairy tales weren’t all fiction, whatever. You find that out, they start coming after you. So we stuck together and started fighting back.
This isn’t the whole tale, only the bits I got to see… or what I can remember of those bits, anyway. So here goes:
*name* was the original leader… basically because he was the oldest, and could shoot the straightest and didn’t scream the first time they staked one of the bastards. <-Editor’s note – this name has been removed at the request of surviving relatives who ‘refuse to believe their son was caught up in all that fanatical terrorist nonsense’->
Jennifer – she’d go into a raging fit if you called her Jenny – was a pro on the job and a mess off it (yeah, you shouldn’t speak ill of the dead… whatever. We weren’t saints and I’m running out of live people); her way of checking she was still alive was pressing up to any warm flesh that came her way… and one day *name* was that flesh, and she decided sticking with him was a good bet, and stuck around.
… and… there were probably a bunch of other people. There had to have been. Is it bad they’re the only ones I remember? Probably. Some day someone’ll go through the records and write a proper history. ‘til then this’ll have to do. Fingers crossed whoever ends up writing about Mark II ends up remembering a bit more.
Somewhere along the line they picked up this geek called Aaron after the vamps took out his parents, figuring it was them and not their precocious only child who’d hacked in the system and found out the big fanged secret. So Aaron got lots of shiny toys and a secret lair to play with them in, in exchange for being their tech kid.
So we played at being heroes for a while. Rescued a couple of damsels in distress… adopted a couple of strays… Anna was a bit of both I guess. <-Editor’s Note – the writings hereafter are somewhat illegible; they seem to have been crossed out, restarted, crossed out again etc. Whoever this Anna is, she’ll have to remain a mystery for the moment->
She’s dead now. Like the rest of them. Everyone else went out and got killed doing stupid and heroic things, and the lab rat got through. Lab cockroach seems more appropriate really.
The book says we may be through with the past, but the past ain’t through with us… or something. “We die, but the movement lives on” and all those other clichés. Newbies kept coming, and a few of them proved pretty damn good at the not-dying. Not going to test how good by naming them here though – we’re not idiots.
Vive la resistance. We’re still watching.
