Have an(other) Elric, Nexus!
There is an Edward Elric in the Nexus, studying The Sign. This one seems different -- maybe not as much as the genderswapped ones some. Is it the fact his coat looks more like a robe? Is it the fact he's merely 'on the short side' rather than 'fullmetal chibi'? Is it that both of his hands appear to be flesh?

Maybe it's the antennae -- not just a stray bit of hair sticking out of his bangs, but two thin, almost insectlike strands poking out from within his hair.

"Where..." he shook his head. "No, I don't want that to be my question. I'm looking for someone. Can anyone help me out here?"

"Hot air balloons, really? Wow. Though if you have interdimensional travel, we don't have that. Maybe some of the stuff my ancestors were doing, but most of that doesn't work, and Winry, Sheska and I had to destroy probably the best clue we had to that technology."

Edward laughs. "We aren't using technology to do that little trick. We're jumping through the Gate, which is the regulator of Equivalent Exchange."

"Alchemy then?"

Edward nods. "Alchemy. Very advanced alchemy that I wouldn't recommend using if you can help it, because it usually ends with missing body parts."

"Thanks for the tip. Mom and Al would rake me over the coals if I ended up missing parts, then Winry would complain that they didn't wait for her to get back."

Edward laughs. "Yeah, our families tend to get flustered and stern when we do things like that."

Ed nods. "I already had to leave Mom with Al last time. Running off again would be bad." There was a tinge of sadness in his voice there.

Edward catches that twinge of sadness and he frowns in sympathy. "Things went bad, huh?"

Edward scowls. "It seems like it always does," he grumps. "I suppose we wouldn't be Elrics if we didn't find trouble now and again, but good Christ, Mary and Joseph, it'd be nice to catch a break."

"I can't complain, though. I still have Mom, and all my limbs. If this place is trying to teach me to shut up and be grateful, it's doing hell of a job."

"The Nexus has a tendency to do that," Edward agreed. "I have more now than some of my alternates even in the Nexus have, and certainly more than most who will never come here will have."

"I do," Ed admitted. "Including of my older half brother and his wife and kids. I didn't start out that way. I started out with nothing but a bottle of whiskey to crawl into and try to drown in. So yeah, the Nexus has a tendency to make you appreciate what you have."

Edward shrugs. "In my world, the old man was married a long time before he met Mom," he explains. "They had a kid, kid died, Dad brought him back as a homunculus. Most of them have been left with Dante's influence too long so they become Envy, but we have one that came here instead of staying with her and managed to avoid being anybody but William."

"Oh, that sounds similar enough. Dad and Dante were never married, but I found out later folks thought they might end up together. They did a lot of work on robotics, and Envy was the result. Dad broke up with her, and ended up with Mom, but nobody knew about the whole android thing, until Dante built one to replace Mom."

"Sloth and Envy were. The other Ed says there's one named Greed here, who I haven't met."
