Mary's head was cluttered and clouded. She had been restless since the festival and the appearance of the mark, and it was not uncommon to find her out and about on the grounds trying to clear her mind. That day she had taken her horse - Dallin, a Palomino stallion - out for a ride with her bow for some archery practice. Together they'd been out for nearly three hours with a rest or two in the mix. Mary was frustrated, and frustration often did wonders for her motivation to train. She was quite good with harnessing that frustration and aggression and using it for her bow. Her precision, while not absolutely flawless, pleased her a great deal. It was only when she was satisfied with her performance and feeling a bit more at ease that Mary returned to the stables.
She dropped from Dallin with a pat to the side of his neck and led him to a paddock. She thought briefly of returning to the castle, but the sunshine was doing her a world of good. Instead, she leaned contentedly against the fence and admired Dallin as he grazed. He truly was a magnificent creature - beautiful with an otherworldly grace in his muscles. Perhaps she was biased in his favor, but in general Mary had great admiration for horses. She didn't mind her chores as a Hufflepuff; they tended to center around the stables and the horses. She rather enjoyed them. As she thought of her chores, she glanced back toward the stables and stalls at the rest of the horses. Generally the chores were done in pairs, but she figured it couldn't hurt to help out while she was already down there. With one last glance at Dallin, Mary drew in a deep breath and headed toward the stalls. The first horse she came by was a larger breed...roan in color and proud looking. She led him out to the paddock with Dallin to walk him around and check for mites. She might have done it in the stall, but the light outside provided a better look.
