"Nope," he said mischeviously, still pulling her down the sidewalk. "I think you've had quite enough hints for today," he added. "Maybe I shouldn't give you your gift tonight," he said, pretending to actually consider it for a second.
"Why don't you save it for Easter?" he suggested. "Then I don't have to buy you another gift," he added with a laugh. He already had her an Easter gift, of course - a bunch of red roses, and a lovey-dovey card - both of which he'd gotten his mother to pick out. The roses she'd had to get, because Sam couldn't very well hide them from Stacey on the train ride home. He'd let her get the card because his mother knew, more than he did, what young women liked.
