God, his words sounded so final. Whatever this was was happening. It wasn't Let's stop and think, it wasn't We're going to find a way to agree, it was...an ending. It was broken. It was happening.
"It's okay," she lied, trying to make him feel better. After all, it wasn't his fault that he didn't want to marry her ever. He shouldn't have to feel sorry for not wanting her like that.
Her barely-there smile faltered as he wiped her tears away because she couldn't help but think that this might be the last time that she was ever this close to him. She gave a shuttering sigh as she did her best to keep from sobbing again.
