"I do want to commit!" Sam protested, though he could definitely see where she could think otherwise. "I'm stupid, so stupid..." he muttered, trailing off.
The sight of her crying very nearly broke his heart, and he wished desperately to hold her. Unfortunately, he wasn't sure how she would react to that right now, and so instead he stayed on his side of the room.
"I don't know, either," he finally mumbled, kicking at the carpet dishearteningly. "I just know that I love you, Stacey." I'll never love anyone as much as I do her.
"If you want to go to Mary Anne's for a while," he finally added, after a pause, "I understand. Just please don't think this is - over, yet." He choked up on the last words.
