"Marriage?" Sam asked incredulously. He didn't know why the thought was so surprising, but it was. He had always assumed that they'd wind up married - someday. But someday still seemed like it should be a faraway time. It wasn't that he minded being committed to one person; they lived like they were practically married, anyhow. But the title of being 'officially married' somehow seemed intimidating.
"We have plenty of time for that!" Sam shot back. "We're still young."
Of course, he knew plenty of people who'd married when they were younger than this, but still. Marriage, in Sam's mind, seemed to lead inevitably to divorce. He didn't want to end up with a second marriage like his mother, his father, and so many other people around him. He just wanted to be with Stacey.
