Music!
What was your favorite band, musician, or album cover art from the 80s? Or, did you have any special vinyl LPs? Did you go to any concerts in the 80s, and if so, who did you see?

The Smiths! And later Morrissey. But I have to say that my all-time favorite vinyl was a tie between a printed "Lovecats" by the Cure and a glow-in-the-dark "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus.

The first concert (and only concert) I went to in the 80s was Rod Stewart when "Forever Young" came out. I had decided to take a mental health day from school (a case of DO NOT WANT on a Monday) and won tickets by calling into the radio station. I think the next concert after that was Social Distortion, but it might've been either 1989 or 1990, so it's a close call!

DIO.

The covers on his first few albums are awesome to me. Ronni also has a great voice, and his songs are memorable.

The first song I can recall is "Last in Line" thanks to MTV. I must have seen that vid thousands of times, which for some reason, prompted my parents to get me "Last in Line" LP for christmas. If only they knew what they had done. ;)

I still have the LP,albiet rather worn now after years and years of playtime.

I didn't get a chance to attend any concerts since I was too young to go to any. I wish I had the chance to see RUSH back then. I have a lot of favorite LPs from them...from "Moving Pictures" to "Hold your Fire".

I really don't have one particular favorite band or artist of the 80's. I like a bunch of them!

Ones that come to mind in no particular order:
Ac/Dc(Back in Black,Maximum Overdrive soundtrack)
DIO(holy diver,last in line,sacred heart,dream evil)
Quiet Riot(Mental Health, Q R III)
Motley Crue(theatre of pain)
Rush
Thompson Twins
Genesis(blocks,invisible touch)
Men without Hats
Men with Hats
U2
White Lion(Pride)
Scorpions
Metallica (Cliff Burton days)
Ozzy Osborne (Bark at the Moon,Blizzard of Ozz)
Queen (It's a kind of magic)
Def Leppard(all albums up to Hysteria)
Foreigner(Records)
John Mellencamp(Scarecrow)
Grim Reaper(See you in hell)
Duran Duran(Rio,Arena,7 and the Ragged Tiger)
Faith No More(The Real Thing)

The only LP's I ever had exposure too belonged to my parents so I grew up as a cassette diva - I collected and collected since I am such a music nut. In fact, I collected so many that I didn't switch to CD until about 2002!

I remember staying up late on Friday's just to catch Friday Night Videos - well, before cable and MTV. We'd have to tune it in with one of those antennas with a dial that would make that hideous noise as it shifted to find the signal.

During the early 80's I was influenced more by what was on the radio - The Police, Blondie, Madonna, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, and of course, Michael Jackson.

Then by chance I heard "People Are People" by Depeche Mode and my world exploded into New Wave and Synthpop! The Smiths, The Cure, New Order, etc.

My first ever concert was to go see Duran Duran. What a night that was...the only way I was allowed to go was to go with my mother.

I do admit that I did have a little soft spot for Twisted Sister and Quiet Riot at one time and they remain a guilty pleasure. I also admit to owning a cassette of New Kids on the Block and Milli Vanilli.

Do you remember all those '80's Charity concerts? Live Aid, Band Aid, U.S.A. for Africa artists singing "We Are the World"?

I loved Blondie, Depeche Mode, and Pat Benatar .... but my absolute favourite in the 80s was Duran Duran. I was able to see them three times during their 80s heyday, and I have to say that those are still some of the best concerts I've ever been to, though I've seen literally dozens since then. I still have a soft spot for John Taylor.

During the '80s I loved The Bangles and Rick Astley - I was four years old at the time.

I do actually love a lot of '80s music now, though: The Cure, Prince, The Smiths, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Sinead O' Connor, Midnight Oil...good stuff :)

Ahhh.. 80's music. How I adore it still. I won't give you the long list, but the short list of favorites is: Def Leppard, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, GnR, Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, 38 Special, Whitesnake, Poison, old school Madonna (don't like anything she's done since '91), Bon Jovi.

I've gotta admit, never had vinyl. My parents had pretty gotten rid of it. I got into music with the advent of the cassette tape in about 1987 or 1988. I finally finished replacing all my cassettes with CDs and throwing them out about a year and a half ago. (Yes, I owned a NKOTB tape at one point... :-P)

First concert I ever went to? Ya know... I think my first concert wasn't until '91... and then it was to see Chicago in concert (the band, long before the movie/musical existed!). I went with my dad. :-) He was the first parent I was able to con into taking me to a concert. LOL. I'm paying him back for that this coming spring... I got tickets for us to see Bruce Springsteen & the E Street band during the '08 tour.

Duran Duran was my favorite band and then came the Monkees.

I saw the Monkees in 1986 in Philadelphia at the 20th anniversary Monkees convention along with a concert at Mann Music Center.

I still absolutely adore Duran Duran. And I have to say that your icon is wonderful. "Save A Prayer" is such a beautiful video.

That is my favorite video. :)

I finally got to see them in concert in November 2006.

I screamed like I was 12 again. :D

I was young the first time I saw them (I don't want to age myself by saying just how young), and I still have fond memories of throwing my bra at John and having it catch on the neck of his bass while they were playing "Hold Back the Rain." He handed it to Simon with a very strange half-smirk on his face. I can't help thinking that they were probably a bit dismayed at the extremely small cup size.

Since you asked, I'm going to upload my favourite album cover from the 80's. I think this is so sensual and beautiful, and the album itself is just incredible. Bryan Ferry has the most gorgeous voice I've ever heard. Hearing him sing can still make me swoon.
