Religion fascinates, tickles the mind, and drives people to unwitting names in the name of the unseen. I have, myself, never seen its forest for its dense trees. In my experience, it has been a gentle lullaby to soothe a fitful child or a pat on the head of a mutt for a job well done. You believed, now here is your treat: faith. It is a muddling trait of humanity, is it not? Mankind overall markets itself as supreme while still boasting countless millions that bow before some invisible eye in the sky, whether Pod God or smiling idol.

It is tempting to believe in some Pod God, I suppose. As I've read, pods arrive with gifts inside to varying degrees of use or nostalgia. I confess it is also tempting to want to be a part of that scene to be held at the 'sacred tree,' not as a participant, but rather as a bemused spectator.

I've found I believe in very little, a handful of people perhaps, nothing more. In the absence of them, I would not then find comfort in any sort of faith, only a sense of having been alienated by it.

Troubling how an entertaining slice of insanity can spark such lonely drivel.

SHERLOCK HOLMES, ABBIE MILLS, JUDY HOPPS:

Orders came down from Parker about who's who in the investigation here, and that would be us. Everyone else is off the case for personal reasons, especially because some of them will be giving you statements about Emma's spell. So for the immediate future, you three report to me.

Since Mills and Hopps are brand new: Welcome to Mount Weather. I'm Bigby Wolf, yes that's my real name, no I wasn't affected by the spell, yes the six fuzzy toddlers who wander into the office are mine. Normally we wouldn't put people so new in charge of anything, let alone an investigation into alleged misuse of magic this big, but some of the anger from the other side of this situation comes from the lives that were in more danger than usual when we were attacked. People up the ladder are trying to make this investigation as unbiased as possible.

For the immediate future, the three of you are in charge of getting statements from people who are willing to give them. We're specifically looking at people who were under the spell, here, so don't start entertaining anyone who got a bruise from a goblin. If the Council decides they want to put charges on Swan for incidental damage caused by the goblin attack, then we'll start talking to people left behind, but I doubt it. I'll send you a list of who we're looking at. Upside of a couple of you being so new is that you're basically incapable of adding bias to a report when you don't know what the fuck is going on. Anyone who doesn't want to talk to you doesn't have to. Some people aren't interested in Emma faces consequences for what was done to them personally, and that's fine, but I'd shy away from giving your own personal opinion to anyone who does talk to you.

We've already got a confession under our belts, so at this point the police are basically set dressing who are gathering shit for the lawyers to use during a trial. Won't hurt to find out which of them would be comfortable taking the stand while you're at it. Murdock and Nelson will probably be taking this, since Walters was one of the people under the spell, and you'll endear yourselves to Murdock real fast if you record your interviews whenever possible.

Fair warning that the people around here are... opinionated. Just do your job and try not to give a shit about anyone who makes it harder for you.

I've solved the the case of the missing file. You're not going to like it. Good news - we got the right guy on the Spellman robbery itself. Bad news is that Law Enforcement Officer Raul Hatchett was having an affair with Eva Wentz and left a belt that can clearly be seen in one of the crime scene photos of the Spellman residence. He took the file to avoid the news of the affair getting out, which-- oopsie.

He's currently locked in the utility closet outside the kitchens. Don't worry, my brawny-yet-sensitive boyfriend is standing in front of the door and and waiting for you guys to arrest him. Hatchett's confessed to everything, which from what I understand is enough grounds to release him without trial because he's a nice guy, but I figured I'd let you people do some paperwork for once.

(Incidentally, I'd figured it out before Storybrooke, but I didn't have time to get the confession I needed before being whisked away on a magical adventure full of love and light. Also incidentally, unless you have a comment about this case, don't poke the bear. Today is not a good day, and tomorrow's not looking great either. Thank you.)

As much as the universe keeps trying to tell me otherwise, I do my damnedest not to believe in God anymore or magic or voodoo or whatever. But just after we win a big fight, then this world takes away over a hundred people in trade for a pile of nightmare-fuel hero masks?

Trish isn't here, but we'll still be having the Alcoholics/Narcotics Anonymous meeting tonight. She'd want us to keep going and supporting each other.

If you're new and you've struggled with addiction - alcohol or drugs - you're welcome to attend. Or if you've not new and you want to talk to other people who have faced addiction as well. We meet every Tuesday at 8 pm, room 205C. I know being somewhere like this is an added stress on top of everything else, so we, Trish and I, wanted to help other people who'd gone down similar paths before. You don't have to talk if you don't want to, that's never going to be a requirement. Or if you'd feel more comfortable talking one-on-one, I'd be glad to set up a time for that instead.

At least I've got a room to myself, now. A lot of people seem to.

Is the training camp still going on? I want to sign up for wilderness survival.

LAW ENFORCEMENT:

Believe it or not, someone tampered with some of the newly harvest strawberries and rendered them inedible. We get to find out who.

Anyone on staff got sensitive smelling powers? Might make this easier if we've got someone who can literally track them.

I...have an album now. Of pictures from home. We had to leave these behind when we left our house after my mom died, so I'm not sure how....but they're here.

Thank you to everyone who's been helping with the White Witch problem. I'm grateful, and I'm sure we're all grateful; it's just frightening and strange to think of magic like that being real. Traveling between universes I was willing to accept, but turning a carbon-based life form into stone?

It's a lot to process. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen her myself. I know magic's perfectly logical in other worlds, but... not where I'm from.

So is there an actual plan for dealing with the one doing this?

While I initially had reason to believe I was being quartered with Legolas, a second inspection of his appearance has not aligned with Tolkien's description. I still do not, however, agree with what it is my eyes have seen. Circumstances are not, as any new arrival can imagine, ideal.

My thanks for the mug and colourful pamphlet, it has given me a great deal of information of which I have, overall, very little use. I have been told I will be a part of law enforcement. To whom do I report? There's something I wish to discuss in private.
