I have always enjoyed a chocolate cake, and the one served with this evening's meal was especially good. My thanks to the kitchen staff for the treat; you have outdone yourselves.

I was content to merely be an observer in this afterlife and witness the flurry of interactions, the good spirits, the new connections being forged and reaffirmed. O brave new world, that has such people in it. Life, even in the wake of catastrophe, carries on, business as usual. There is a small comfort in knowing that.

I didn't think I would be participating in these network posts, but I must confess I've been having difficulty sleeping of late. I've been told the vivid community on this network is vital to acclimatising to a new environment, so here we are.

I must admit to feeling some melancholy lately, missing my comrades in arms, and my family at home in England. I do my job, I socialise as well as I'm able, and yet, I still feel a heaviness in myself that is difficult to shake off. I wish to make friends here, yet I find it difficult -- and the fault lies within me, for you see not the adventuring spirit that I had prior to the war for a few years into it, but a soul that is grey and listless and fearful of making close bonds.

I find myself missing the comforts of even my war-torn home, for there I was able to be actively involved in throwing off the tyranny that threatened England. Here there is no such tyranny, and the enemy we fight is a lack of knowledge, of what brings us here, and what unaccountably takes us away so suddenly.

As you all know, there's quite an intensive search and rescue operation being put into effect to find those amongst us who have been lost. Beginning tomorrow, I'll be leading a group to work our way thoroughly through the tunnels and bunkers here under Mount Weather. I know that some search has been made here, but this will be thorough and complete, and will likely take a few days. If you'd like to help out in this regard, please do let me know so that we may make sure that everyone has a chance to help.

I saw that Antoine Triplett has gone missing. Has anyone seen him since he was reported as absent? I should hate for his grandfather to show up and not be able to see the fine man that Trip grew into. Regardless, I'd like to join any searches that are ongoing for him.

Hullo, old chap. I'm Monty Falsworth, although I don't know if the name will mean anything to you. Your name is vaguely familiar to me and your story as well from a course I took whilst at university, and I wondered how you have gotten on here, since your arrival.

RESCUE & RECOVERY / MILITARY:

We need ten teams to go out and scour the areas surrounding Mount Weather, Camp Jaha, and the hundred's old dropship to find any clues of former Chancellor Thelonious Jaha's whereabouts. We're have more people come to say that they saw him before the not-such-an-accident with the blast doors at Camp Jaha. We need proof.

Sign-ups here. We'll be heading out tomorrow and I would suggest getting a good night's sleep and settling things for a few days. It's going to take two days to get to the dropship and another day and a half to get to Camp Jaha. If you need to be within Mount Weather distance for overnight, let me know here.

I don't know if the excitement of this place surpasses that of fighting Nazis and HYDRA, but it certainly has been giving the war a run for its money. I trust that everyone survived the demon, safe and sound?

Thank you, for your help a few weeks ago. I continue to be most appreciative of the forebearance you showed me, and your words of comfort.

I met this soldier while I was serving in Italy. Whenever he got the chance, he would tell people about his wife, but he would tell everyone a different version. One was brunette, another was a redhead, at one point she had a tragic cleft palate and a wandering eye. He was a little awkward and most people just nodded and smiled while he talked. We were all a long way from home and no one's going to tell a lonely soldier they're not listening.

So one day we're in the mess together, it's early enough for coffee but not enough for food, and he starts telling me about his wife, this blonde woman with flat feet and a slightly crooked smile. I finally said, "You tell everyone about a different girl, and I can't tell if you're making it up or not."

He finally went quiet (this guy was never quiet, goes without saying he was never on any night missions) and replied, "I was waiting to see if anyone would notice." It turns out he was screwing with us; he'd been part of a special ops team when he was younger and was prodding us to see if we were paying attention. Everyone had written him off as losing his touch, but we needed every body we could get on the field that could hold himself upright, so no one questioned it. (In hindsight, if everyone thought he was nuts and they were right about it, giving him a gun was probably a bad idea.) For the next few weeks I got up early to play cards with him before breakfast started. When he wasn't spinning bullshit, he was actually pretty interesting. I would have missed out on some great stories if I'd just nodded and smiled like everyone else.

He died a month later in Austria.




I remembered that this morning.

Steve's real name is Cas. I have no friggin' idea why he insists on the Steve thing, but let's be honest here: Sam and I go along because it seems to do something for him. Great, whatever, we all get our kicks where we can, but there's no way I'm calling him "Steve" in our own apartment.

Sorry you're stuck with us, Monty.
