Hello!

As some of you may know, the Mount Weather Book Club has fallen into a bit of a mess because we lost its chairwoman. In the interest of keeping things going, I'm assuming the responsibilities of the club and hosting discussions on Friday evenings at seven o'clock in the library.

This month's book will be The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, and I've made copies of it available on the network so you can read on your tablet. Unfortunately, there's only one physical copy available; if you prefer to read an actual book, you can read it in the library as long as it stays in the library so others can make use of it as well (we're not having another Return of the King situation).

We may take longer than a month to finish it, as it's rather long and there's a lot to unpack and discuss. Meetings will begin at seven and end whenever things end, I suppose, and there will be refreshments.

This is my favorite time of year.

If anyone still wants any last minute Christmas decorations, I'd be happy to wave my wand around a bit and make some for you. And I hope that all my favorite people will join me later for the traditional Pin Decorations on Prongs -- and by that I mean, drape them over my antlers instead of actually pinning them to me, because that would hurt. It just sounds so much catchier the other way.

I have decided, given the last few days, the battle, the recovery, the cleanup, that this Christmas will most definitely be the most wonderful time of the year.

The effort people have gone to, the plans, the various cultures and their own holiday traditions, it really fosters a sense of community that I for one am proud to be a part of.

I wasn't sure my life could get anymore completely fucked up, but somehow it has managed.

I arrived yesterday. It's over a hundred years in the future for me here. I guess things don't turn out so well for Earth or the people on it. All of my advocating for climate change did absolutely bloody hell, so there's that.

Ugh. Stop being negative, Emily. This is a grand adventure, right?

Fuck it all. I'm Emily Fitch and I'm probably a fangirl of at least half of you. Because I've been spending the past two years doing nothing but watching telly and reading comics. I will not apologize for swooning when I meet Harry Potter.
