It is, in truth, precisely about you and how you are handling this. If this were about others, then you would have explained politely that both versions of the game would be welcome, as they are both valid forms of the same game you all enjoy, and that no one would be forced to play a version they don't want to. No one should have to be left out or spoken down to simply because they enjoy something you do not.
Chess is about the decisions you make, how well you are able to think ten steps ahead of your opponent. It is not about how a piece is moved; it is about where you place it.
Furthermore, if I'm going to be perfectly frank, I'm not at all inclined to participate in your version of this game if it involves the elitism you have expressed. It is quite unfortunate that we cannot all look at this with open minds.
