WHO: Henry Mills. WHEN: tonight (January 3) at dinner WHERE: the mess hall WHAT: Henry tries to get dinner. Unfortunately he gets caught up in a fight instead. If anyone wants to get Henry to medical feel free.
If there was one thing Henry Mills loved to do it was read.
Thankfully Mount Weather had a library and that meant he could keep up with trying out different authors and genres. Fantasy and science fiction might have been his favorite but he could see the benefits of the others and really as long as he could get lost in what the author was saying that was what mattered to him. He had been wanting to read The Once and Future King for ages, but with everything going on back home there hadn’t really been time to read like he used to. In some ways that was a good thing, he had his family, he had friends and so he wasn’t hiding himself away, trying to ignore the ‘Henry’s lost it’ looks he would get because he knew everyone was living a lie.
But here as long as he got his work finished he could do as he pleased. Usually that would mean seeing what others were up to or working on ways to help his mom or figure out how to bring Disney World to Mount Weather, but he’d stumbled upon the copy of the book and hadn’t been able to put it down. King Arthur wasn’t exactly his favorite story but Henry could practically see Merlin turning the boy into various animals as he read about them.
He should have been paying attention as he walked through the mess hall toward where to get dinner. Maybe if he had put in the slip of paper to be a bookmark he would have sensed the rising hostility, seen the body language of the two groups become more agitated, or at least heard the angry shouting before the two groups attacked one another.
He definitely would have managed to stop from stumbling into the line of fire, would have halted his steps instead of taking a right hook to his jaw. That dropped him immediately, book sliding out of his grasp as he hit the floor, trying to cover his head as boots came at him from all sides. Neither clan realized a bystander was in the way, thinking he was with the other as more shouting was added to the mix, people scrambling to stop the fight.
Mom, was Henry’s last thought before he finally blacked out from the pain.
