Log; Han & Anakin Solo
Who: Han Solo & Anakin Solo
When: Backdated to early in October - before the twins got here.
Where: Within the five mile zone.
What: A little father & son hunting party.
Rating: Low
Status: COMPLETE.
Han stepped between the trees. The leaves had already started to fall here, leaving a dense, crackling layer of undergrowth that made sneaking up upon anything practically impossible. That Han had never hunted in any practical capacity was not lost upon him. He wasn't a part of the hunting group here, but he'd like to believe that he could be. It was that Solo bravado that carried him, making him believe that he could accomplish anything, with a little bit of effort and lots of luck. So, it was that he'd brought his son along for his first hunting foray. It had been meant as a bonding experience, rising before the sun and forging out into the unknown. But as the first rays of dawn started to slip through the trees, Han was beginning to think this hunting thing wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. On the other hand, Anakin was just so thankful to be out doing something and doing something with his father was just a bonus. Hunting wasn't something Anakin had ever really done - not in any significant way - but he could probably do this. If nothing else he could probably find the animals in the Force. He didn't need Jacen's skill at talking to animals to be able to do that. Just the normal Force stuff would do. He looked over at his dad and considered. Talking wasn't probably really conducive to animal finding. Then again the leaves crackling under their feet weren't really conducive either. Which meant that, unfortunately for his father, Anakin was feeling like asking the question. "So. You and mom. What is going on with you two?" The question caught Han off-guard. He stopped moving forward through the forest, turning now to look at his son. "What do you mean?" He kept his voice casual, relaxed, but he seemed more on edge with that question hanging in the air. What was between him and Leia wasn't necessarily complicated, but he didn't really have a word for it. And even if they did get married here, what did that mean? He couldn't imagine starting a family here, not with everything that had happened in the past six months. It was too chaotic. But none of these were thoughts that he was yet ready to share with Anakin. So, instead of correcting himself, he simply offered a slight shrug. "We're just, taking it slowly." Anakin looked over at his Dad. He wouldn't begin to pretend that he understood exactly what his Dad was doing, or anything with his parents and he was also pretty certain that he didn't want to know the details (pretty certain? try very definitely certain) but at the same time they were his parents. It was weird enough that they both looked so young, and that they weren't together, or they were sort of together, and it was all a little confusing. Mostly Anakin had survived thus far by ignoring it too much so he shrugged. "I guess that works." He didn't really know what else to say to that, and truthfully Anakin had never really been a morning person so words before dawn were kind of difficult. At this point though the sun was beginning to shine through, and it was truthfully really pretty. The sort of thing he didn't typically roust himself out of bed for on an average morning. And maybe there would be something to show for it. At least if he could get his brain wrapped around hunting rather than around life stuff. Anakin relaxed into the Force reaching out to feel the life around him in the forest. If there was something out there that they could actually catch, they would find it. "Maybe we ought to find somewhere with a good view of like, say the water, and just wait?" Anakin suggested. "Most animals have to find water eventually, and the noise on the leaves is kind of a detriment." Han was glad for the change of subject. He knew that he'd eventually have to address his relationship with Leia, even more so now that they had a son here, but somehow that seemed a conversation for the future. Right now, it was enough that they didn't seem to argue as much as they used to (ignoring all the times that Han did something stupid and romantic and everything fell apart). Even a quick survey of his surroundings told Han that the kid was right. They weren't going to catch anything out here, just traipsing about in the undergrowth. And as much as Han liked being away from the rest of Mount Weather's population, he didn't think that was fair to his son. "Sounds like a good start." He indicated a direction slightly to the left. "How about over there? There should be a path that way overlooking the river." He started off in that direction, adding as he did, "So. How are you settling in here?" Anakin nodded and started in the direction his Dad had indicated. It wouldn't be one hundred percent certain, but it seemed like a good idea and right now they really had not a lot of anything. So they could start here, and hopefully that would change. He looked up at his Dad as he walked and gave him a quick grin. "I mean, I think I am. It's different. Cause no Jedi, and no Uncle Luke or anyone to train with. But so far I like working with the computer bits and pieces all right. And I've met some people that are pretty nice. I mean, Nico's about my age and he's great. And Bianca's really nice even if she's younger. And Percy and Annabeth are older, but they're nice, and Anya and Violet, they're a little older too, but they're nice to me so I guess we're kind of friends. It's not like having Jaina or Jacen here, or Tahiri, but it's still nice to have people to do stuff with. I mean, outside of you and Mom, no offense." He sighed. "It'd be nice to go places though. I don't think I've been in one place for so long for - well, I don't know that I even was most months at the academy. Are the grounders - I mean, all of them - really that bad?" "I don't know." What Han knew about the Grounders was limited to hearsay, general rumors, and what happened with the werewolves. He didn't like to paint an entire group of people with one brush, but he didn't want to test the tentative truce that lay between the two groups of people. "I don't think anyone knows… Not entirely. And that's the thing, isn't it? They've worked hard to build this place from the ground up, and what we know comes from the natives… So, I mean, we might be able to stumble into a village of grounders unscathed, but is it worth the risk?" Han looked at Anakin. "Might be the answer's yes. Might be...not." He let that statement hang, before drawing himself back from the edge of those thoughts. "It'd be nice to be able to explore, though. Five miles is hell of a short radius for the likes of us…Especially since I've been over every inch of them." Anakin nodded quietly. He really would have preferred to have been able to explore more. Even on Yavin IV he'd been able to get out - to do things - and sometimes off of Yavin IV as well. It seemed that was incredibly unlikely here, but surely the five mile perimeter could be changed or loosened or something. "I guess we wouldn't be able to do anything, huh? But it feels like we ought to be able to do something, you know. Like Mom could do her diplomacy thing or… I don't know." He stuffed his hands in his pockets and looked up at his dad. "Guess it's not like we know anything about them so it'd be hard to really make it work, wouldn't it? But I'd really like to get out. Like, I'd really like to get out. I'm more cooped up than I've been for years. So if they figured something out, I'd be really excited about that." Han shrugged. "Leadership's got something in the works. I'm betting it won't last too long, and then we'll be exploring the whole planet." Not that they could do that on foot, really. They'd need to have the appropriate equipment in place, and then, there was the whole issue of going off planet. Han didn't necessarily miss the Falcon -- not after his last experiences in it -- but he'd be lying if he said he didn't miss spaceflight. That was just...part of him. Anakin couldn't help but think that would be nice to have that. He enjoyed working with the tech stuff - he'd always liked tinkering - but he was tired of living underneath a mountain. While it wasn't entirely like life in space would be like in some respects, Anakin really just wasn't used to one type of life fortoo long. He'd been in space, been on the ground, been on different types of planets, been a lot of different places in the galaxy, and staying in one place of any sort with no foreseeable option for leaving was something that was taking some getting used to. But his attention was caught by movement, and the sense of something that Anakin was pretty certain was animal, so he didn't say anything to his Dad but instead just reached out and grabbed his arm, motioning that they should be quiet and possibly watch where they were stepping as he moved down low and reached out in the Force to try to decide what they might have found here. There was the possibility that maybe this whole hunting expedition wouldn't be as completely unlikely as Anakin had begun to think it might end up being. |
