It had been hard to imagine herself as an Avenger, no matter what everyone here said. Maybe it shouldn't have been. At her core (and Pietro's) so many of her formative years had been spent fighting against injustices. That was what the Avengers claimed be to doing, to an extent. But even the name seemed to be so different from the mission. And at their core, weren't they built around lies and corruption? She had worried, when she had arrived here, that her heart was built around the same. Where had her powers come from but HYDRA, after all? What had she and Pietro sold for these abilities?
But then Erik had said that the abilities weren't from HYDRA or the sceptre at all, but were something that originated from within them. And that had struck a chord in her more readily than anything she had ever heard any of the Avengers say.
Maybe it was simply that their backgrounds were more similar, but she was intrigued by this flock of mutants who had arrived. She was drawn to them in a way that she couldn't deny. She had told Pietro that it was smart for them to get to know people here for protection, but it had gone beyond that. She knew that, and she wondered if Pietro could see that in her as well. She needed connections in a way she wasn't sure he did.
So when she had received the invitation from Raven, from another girl who also knew Erik, she didn't need to consider if she was going or not. She was. Because she wanted to know more; she wanted to know these people. She brought a few more of the blocks with her, tucked into her hands, and then waited for Raven to arrive.
