Sam hesitated a moment, and then shifted his weight in the chair, putting his project completely aside. There was no real point in trying to sew while he talked; either the conversation or his stitching would suffer for the distraction, and possibly both. Rather than waiting to mess up or stick himself with a needle, he figured he'd better put it aside.
Besides, even though he didn't have anything in particular he wanted to talk about, he still felt a desire to talk. So the conversation took higher priority than his shirt.
"I don't know," he said honestly. "But I don't think so. Aside from the five years distance between us, that's sort of... in the way. But there's not much I can do about that."
