Adrian still wasn't convinced he wasn't conjuring this whole experience up in his mind. Sure, he'd only been hearing Tatiana's voice the last few months, but that didn't mean he couldn't graduate to full on hallucinations, especially with the way he was using spirit these days - in the rare moments when he was actually sober enough to grasp it, that is. Those were, admittedly, pretty few and far between lately. He sobered up once or twice a day so he could look for Sydney, but that was about it. Okay, yeah, he'd also sobered up long enough to go to class. And to probably fail a final. And to go see Jill. But she hadn't been there, so he'd tipped back his flask to have another drink and then he'd laid down and gone to sleep, right there on the Amberwood grounds. The next thing he knew, here he was, but who was to say he'd ever actually woken up? Seeing Sydney on this network thing hadn't really helped in the making him believe this was reality thing. He dreamed of Sydney all the time. After 3 months of being unable to find her in her dreams, of having no leads on where she was at all, it didn't seem possible that she could just be here, just like that. That didn't stop him from rushing to meet her as soon as she told him where she was. Maybe he was hallucinating. Maybe he didn't care if he was. The ache in his chest was real enough when he thought about how much he missed her. The thought of seeing her, of touching her, even if she wasn't real was irresistible. He didn't just want her. He needed her. He ran the short distance to where Sydney was and that still didn't get him there fast enough. "Sydney," he breathed when he spotted her. She was a vision, even dressed in ordinary clothing. Sydney looked no different that she had the last time he'd seen her, but to him she looked like the most beautiful thing in the world. Without uttering another word, he closed the remained distance between them and pulled her into his arms. |
