She'd meant to say "not since you", but since he took it the other way - and, to be fair, it was the way she'd said it - she just gave a small nod. Absently, she pushed her hair back from her face as she looked up again, composing herself. When he spoke about Josh's dad, Maggie blinked, eyes widening just a little as her throat suddenly went dry. For a moment, she was on the verge of telling him everything, but now...it really wasn't the time or place. Not in the middle of a public park a couple hours before they both had to work, with her son only a few yards away.
As Sam moved in to fill the silence, Maggie looked back at the jungle gym and nodded. "I hope so - having a steady job will help with that," she admitted. "So if any open hours come up....or if you know someone who wants a daytime part-timer, I'll take that, too." She could handle it while Josh was at school, at any rate. Shifting her gaze to him again, she offered him a smile.
"Thanks, Sam...I should really get him home now. I'll see you in a couple hours," she told him, then started over to Josh so that she could collect him and head back to her parents' house.
