"...And then we colored the squares only red and the teacher was happy I knew all of the shapes but I wanted to color the circles blue so I did!" Josh told his mom as he tugged her hand a little to try and make her walk faster towards the park that he could just see across the street. Maggie laughed but maintained a tight hold of his hand while they stopped at the corner. "Good, I'm glad you knew 'em, buddy, but at the moment you need to stop. Remember what I've said about streets?" Leaning down, she picked him up and pointed to the left where a vehicle was coming. "See? There's a car, so we have to wait. Do you remember why?" "Because it's bigger'n us!" came the reply, and she nodded. After the car passed, she checked the other direction, then started on across the street. Once they had reached the grass and entered the playground, Maggie set Josh down on the ground again and he took off towards the jungle gym with a loud whoop of glee.
Shaking her head with a smile, she followed at a more sedate pace until she reached a bench at the side and sat, her dark eyes locked on her son. If anyone had told her a few years ago that she'd be back in Storybrooke and have this beautiful little man in her life, she would have called them crazy. Things definitely hadn't turned out the way she'd planned, but Maggie had long since questioning it. Joshua was the best thing in her life now, no matter how she'd ended up with him, and she really wasn't too upset with that. As he started to climb up into the structure so he could go down the slide, she tensed just a little until she saw him again, but relaxed a moment later. The playground itself was empty at the moment - it was one reason why she liked to take him during the week before her evening shift, because this could be their time together.
