She’d seen his name on the intake sheet and had nearly jumped out of her chair and run to him but since she was working, she had to wait until she was off. As soon as she found out where he was going to be living, Thea rushed out of Medical and hurried to his door. It had been months since she’d seen him back home and had no idea where he’d been, she knew he was okay though because somehow she had a feeling that if he hadn’t been, she would have felt it somewhere. The important thing now was that he was here and while there was a lot to tell him, the only thing she could think of was seeing him again. When she got to the apartment, she didn’t even bother to knock, she just pushed at the door to see if it was open and finding that it was, she walked in and there he was. Thea had to bite her lip to keep from crying as she launched herself at him into a hug. “Oh my god, Roy, I’m so glad to see you,” she said, her face buried in his hoodie. It had been a few weeks at least since Roy had left behind his identity as Jason, the mechanic. He had picked up other jobs along the way, settling in different sublet apartments. It was a life without any tangible trace of identity, yet it was normal, and it was his. The only thing missing had been Thea, but he knew he had made the right decision in leaving her behind. To have woken up in an alternate universe where Thea was living seemed like a lie. It was the kind of lie that might have been cooked up by any of the Starling City villains… But Roy was not the type to be paranoid. He was vigilant, but not so much as to buy into conspiracy theories. So, he had accepted without too much difficulty that this was a world apart from his. He had at least accepted that this was his room when Thea came in through the door. She was here, and she was holding onto him. And this had to be a dream. A very real dream that he had had over and over since leaving Starling. "I can't believe it's…" He was looking down at her, trying to place all of the details of the girl he had been in love with. "You're really here." “Yes I am really here,” she reached up and touched his face. “And I can’t believe that you’re right here. This place is weird. When I got here Ollie was here but he left not long after I got here. Then a month or so later, he came back and Felicity was with him, they’re officially together now by the way, he’s going to propose if he ever gets off his ass and does it, but anyway they went back a few weeks ago so it’s just been me. Barry Allen from Central City is here and his friend Cisco but I don’t think you know them? I just met Barry myself this year. He’s The Flash.” Thea was rambling but she had so much to tell Roy that she didn’t even know where to begin. “It’s been crazy at home, I can’t even begin to tell you but right now I’m just...well this is way better than the Evil Starbucks that popped up yesterday.” "Yea." Roy tried to process everything that Thea was saying, but his brain was still stuck on them both being here. It was like he'd been brought to an evil apocalyptic world, only to have the one thing that he wanted the most. Well, apart from normalcy, which did not…Her words about the Flash brought him back to reality. He remembered the Flash from that time he'd come to see the 'Arrowcave.' He kind of hoped that they'd managed to rename that in the interim. "I met Barry and Cisco when they were in Starling. Before...everything." He put a hand on Thea's arm, aware that the last time they had been together had been complicated. Then again, when wasn't it? "Wait, Oliver was here and now he's not? And he's proposing to Felicity? What happened with the League?" Thea sat down and pulled Roy with her. She wasn’t sure how to tell him this part but he had to know. “Ra’s knew that it would take something really big to get Oliver to agree to take over as head of the League. So he….” She took a deep breath. “He killed me or tried to. He stabbed me with a sword and i nearly died but Oliver had heard of something on Nanda Parbat called the Lazarus Pit, it’s how Ra’s has stayed alive all this time...he’s more or less immortal. If you put someone in it before they’re dead than can be healed.” Pausing for a moment, she took a shaky breath. “All I know about that is what they told me afterward. My father didn’t want to do it because there are side effects but Ollie just well..you know how he is. He did it and i came back but I wasn’t myself for a couple of days, I didn’t remember anything but the memories came back. Then Ollie pretended to agree to take over the League, he was working with my father although no one knew it. He was forced to marry Nyssa although I’m pretty sure it’s not legally binding. Cutting to the chase, we all believed it, we all believed that Ollie was going to become Ra’s Ah Ghul but in the end, he killed Ra’s and was given the ring but he gave it to Malcolm so now he’s the head of the League. Which I guess makes me Heir to the Demon but I don’t know. I hope not.” That was the last thing Thea wanted, she wanted to have a little to do with her father as possible and she certainly didn’t want to be an assassin. “I remade your costume and I became part of Team Arrow. They call me Speedy. It’s fun but sometimes I….it’s one of the side effects of the pit..sometimes I have to stop myself, I beat people up and nearly kill them. It’s a blood lust and I don’t know how to stop it so I’ve been careful here, I don’t get into any situations that might lead me to get angry enough to fight someone and I’ve been okay so far but now you’re here and that will be so much more helpful.” She squeezed his hand. “Oh and Oliver and Felicity got together and he left town for a while, he said he wasn’t going to be the Arrow any more but he came back because someone else was trying to ruin the city. So that’s the story.” There were a few things she left out, among them the fact that she was kind of dating Oliver’s campaign manager but that wasn’t important. It wasn’t as if she cared for him the way she cared for Roy. All through the story of her death, of Oliver's betrayal of the League, and Malcolm Merlyn's rise to the role of R'as, he held her hand and listened. It was hard to know whether he felt angry, mostly on her behalf, or upset that this was her life now. Or, if he was happy that she seemed to have found acceptance on her brother's team. "So," he said, once she had finished, "you're saying I should have let you run away with me…" He wasn't serious. While the idea of them running away together appealed to him, he knew that they both had to face their own demons. He didn't understand the effects of her resurrection any better than the others seemed to, and if she had run away with him… His life wasn't going much better than hers. "I didn't want any of this for you, even if you would probably be the most beautiful heir to the demon in the history of the League…You're better than all of them combined." Thea smiled at him. “Maybe you should have but you were right, I needed to face things. It was time to grow up but there have been so many times I wish you’d let me go with you. I’ve missed you so much, Roy. I have been hoping and wishing that you’d show up here every single day but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Now you’re here and it’s the best thing that’s happened to me since I’ve been here.” "Well, being here doesn't seem like your scene, anyway," said Roy, smiling. "It's got too much of that dystopian vibe going for it. You look much better in…color." He put a hand to her face, leaning in closer as he kissed her. He thought of all the times he'd imagined this moment together. He had never thought that their chance to be reunited would be inside a post-apocalyptic government fortress, but now that they were here together, he didn't think it mattered. “Yeah this place can be kind of depre….” But she never finished the sentence because he was kissing her and she moved closer and put her arms around him. As much as Thea had hoped for this since she’d been here, she hadn’t dared to believe it could really happen but now it was. When they finally had to breathe, she smiled at him. “That definitely makes dystopia a lot better.” "Never figured I'd be agreeing with that." It wasn't the reunion he had imagined, but it was enough. |
