THREAD
Who: Teddy Lupin and James Sirius Potter (with special guest appearance)
What: PSEUDO BROTHER HANG OUT!
When: Saturday Afternoon
Where: Hogwarts, the Grounds, then the world?
Rating: PG-13 (later violence)
Incomplete/complete? Incomplete

After Teddy had left his father to rest, he left to make good on his promise to hang out with James. The only thing that really prevented the two f them being real brothers was they weren't connected by blood. Well... distantly, through the whole Black family blood technically they were related. But James really was the little brother Teddy could never have on his own (the two year old version of him didn't really count). And Teddy did feel guilty about their plans falling through, but they weren't going to today.

It would be just the two of them, and Teddy would help James get out of the castle for awhile. Since he was getting stir crazy and all. Sure there was a reason to worry but James had told him that Harry had mostly taken care of things? So why would they be in danger any more. Especially if they only went out into the grounds.

So Teddy wandered from the Hospital Wing in the direction of Gryffindor Tower to wait for James. Sure Teddy had been a Hufflepuff, so he shouldn't know where Gryffindor was... but that was Victoire's old house. So of course he'd made regular visits.

Saturday, James woke up feeling almost as though it was Christmas. Teddy was coming today. He'd been confined to the castle now for several weeks and, when he'd said that he was thinking about burning the whole place down in order to get outside again, he hadn't been completely joking. At home, James was captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, he was very friendly with Hagrid, he knew the passages in and out of the castle like the back of his hand, and his pranks were normally fuelled with any number of resources he would acquire from Weasley's Wizard Wheezes and Zonko's. He was an active young man who was used to frequent, and often surprisingly strenuous, activity. Being stuck in the castle on his father's request--a man James wasn't even sure he liked here in 2000--was making him feel chafed.

But Teddy was coming to visit and James would stop at nothing to convince his not-quite-but-almost-brother that he needed to leave the castle or he was going to go stark raving mad and die of boredom and inactivity. This couldn't be healthy, after all. James was practically pale these days. And, really, with Teddy there, James couldn't even find it in himself to feel guilty for sort of breaking his word to Harry. He would have personal Auror protection for a threat which Harry had said himself was almost gone now. Practically overkill, really.

And so, James had left the commonroom a little while ago to go pace back and forth across the corridor outside and wait for Teddy. And then, finally, there he was. James felt the grin on his face and he practically bounced over to the man. "Teddy, Teddy, Teddy, Teddy! You're here" He gave him a quick hug--a very manly one, obviously--before pulling away and adopting his patented puppy eyes. "Can we please, please go somewhere now? Anywhere?"

"Don't wear my name out mate," Teddy said laughing, as the other boy literally threw himself at him. Well only for a short moent, after the quick completely platonic hug between sort-of-but-pretty-much brothers.

"Okay, okay enough with the pleading, and the puppy eyes! It's creeping me out!" Teddy teased. "I already told you I'd take you outside. If nothing comes to attack you, we'll see about Hogsmeade."

James bounced lightly on the balls of his feet and started for the stairs, tugging at Teddy's sleeve to get him to follow. "Anything you say, Mr. Lupin. Seeing as you're my hero today and all." Hogsmeade! Oh, to go to Hogsmeade. To get a drink at the Three Broomsticks. To buy a dungbomb from... well, he supposed that he would have to settle for Zonko's, since WWW wasn't there yet. To buy sweets at Honeyduke's at long, long last--possibly a thank-you gift for Emma for getting the goats for him.

As he made his way downstairs, James chattered happily to Teddy about the recent happenings at the school which James was not connected to in the slightest way, of course. The jell-o flood throughout the school (which had taken Filch two days to clean up properly) was a fun one, but the goats that had been found in the Gryffindor sixth year girls' dormitory, eating clothing, shoes and make-up and making a general mess of things, was an amusing topic, too. "So," James asked at last, "What have you been up to?"

"Anything to keep my fans happy," Teddy said laughing, letting James pull him towards the stairs but walked fast enough that he didn't get pulled head over heels.

"Yeah, and I bet you had absolutely nothing to do with any of that," Teddy said rolling his eyes. But still, he was impressed with what James was able to accomplish for pranks on his own. Even when he was in a different time.

"Me? Boring stuff compared to you lot. Studying, sleeping after studying too much. Getting in fights with my mother off and on," Teddy rambled on a about with a sigh. "Complicated things."

James wrinkled his nose in distaste as the two of the neared the Entrance Hall and the doors outside. "Studying is so un-fun. There always seems to be so many things to do that are so much more fulfilling than studying. Sleeping is nice, though."

He tried to give Teddy an understanding, sympathetic look when he mentioned fighting with his mother, but could only pull off a shrug. "I'm sorry that you and your mum are fighting, mate. I know, since you didn't really know her before, that it must be tough. I mean, I don't really like either one of my parents here and now, but I think it's just because they aren't the same people I remember them being. I keep expecting them to act a certain way and when they don't, it pisses me off. But the situations aren't really the same. I hope you guys can work everything out."

James turned to face the doors now and shot Teddy a grin over his shoulder. "Outside now?"

"Well get used to it James, because there is still plenty of studying you'll have to go through. Well, at least to finish up school," Teddy said. He didn't know if James intended on being an Auror or not, and if he did... well there was training and entrance exams for that too.

"It's frustrating... that she won't listen to me. I mean, I can fully understand, and comprehend her point. But it's like she doesn't trust that maybe I am trained enough. Because she wasn't there to show me how, or I wasn't exposed to Dark Wizards, so I apparently can't do the job I'm qualified to do," Teddy said in a rant. He took a deep breath and looked at James again. "It's scary how much we're alike. That's why we fight so well."

Teddy stood behind James waiting for him to open the door. "Yes we can go outside James."

James felt like dancing as he stepped outside and skipped down the path leading away from the doors of the castle. He took a deep and exaggerated breath of air. "Fresh air!" he exclaimed to Teddy. "Oh, how I've missed it. And snow, dear snow. I've missed it too, though slightly less, I admit.

"Anyway," James continued, stretching his arms playfully above his head. "You and your mum will work things out, I'm sure. You've got your Dad to help you along and everything." He chuckled a little then, thinking it over. "Man, you've got undead zombie-types for parents now. That's kinda cool."

He was quiet for a few moments and then he gave Teddy what he hoped was a serious look. Then he said, "We need to go for a walk now. Around the lake or..." He did his best to look sincere and innocently hopeful, "Maybe towards Hogsmeade?"

"You do realize you live in a drafty Castle. Fresh air isn't exactly hard to come by," Teddy pointed out shaking his head at James' dramatics. "The snow is definitely easier not to miss though."

Teddy nodded in agreement. "I know we will. And there is that. Dad is really great actually. And he's... still older than me, so that helps. I mean, Mum is practically my age, Harry is younger, Ginny is younger. Besides Gran, there really isn't anyone else that's an older adult to me."

He laughed, pushing James in the direction of Hogsmeade. "Alright, come on you. I don't want to start seeing you beg if we don't go into town."

James grinned madly and eagerly went along with Teddy's push. "It's not the actually fresh air as such that counts," he explained as he happily strode along the path. "It's the idea of fresh air, of being outside. It means that you're not stuckin a musty old castle, feeling claustrophobic. Does that make sense at all?"

He shrugged, not caring much even if he was just spouting nonsense. Teddy had known him since birth. He was used to it by now, surely. He kept up a fairly steady stream of chatter as the two young men walked along towards the nearby village. "I think the age thing has a lot to do with it," he commented at one point, several minutes later. "Neither one of my parents really wants to know the first thing about me or the sibs. I understand that, I guess. But they're not very tactful in how they deal with us. I'd like to think it's just because they don't know how to relate to us, being only a year or two younger than them, yet their children at the same time. Otherwise, I'd just have to assume that both of them are very rude, which I'd rather not assume." He paused and then, genuinely curious, asked, "How is your Gran, by the way?"

Suddenly, James got an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of his stomach. He stopped walking, looking around. It felt like they were being watched. He cocked his head to the side and narrowed his eyes at Teddy. "Do you...?" he trailed off, not really knowing what to ask. "I could be imagining this, but do you get the feeling that... I dunno, like we're not alone?"

"The novelty of it, is what you're looking for. Yes it makes sense," Teddy said walking on. Whatever, they'd be fine. If there was something extremely dangerous going on, wouldn't Harry have been here himself to make sure, or at least assigned someone like his Mum to watch out?

"I think in that case, even if Mum and I are closer in age it's easier for her to deal with. You know... coming back to life and all, and still getting to see a baby version of me. They are parents now, and more used to the idea, than Harry or Ginny at the moment," he said. "I mean sure Harry is still my godfather now, but the little Teddy is two. He's not really to deal with teenagers, no offense James," he said ruffling to semi-brother's hair. "Gran is alright. Surprised by everything that was totally unexpected. I mean... I know having me helped a lot with the grief, but she had my Mum back, so that's worth something? Even if she doesn't have my Grandfather. I've been going over there a lot while I was taking a break after the tests. Telling her about she raised me, since that doesn't seem likely to be the same now."

When James had stopped and started acting strangely, that's when Teddy reached for his wand. He'd started looking before James had even asked if he had a strange feeling. Why hadn't he noticed... "Shh..."

Grindelwald had apparated into the village of Hogsmeade, and had the full intention of going up to the school and finding at least one of the Potter children. Who knew that it would be his luck that he'd come across one coming towards him... at least he was assuming it was James Potter. The older boy with him referred to him as James anyway. It was a good guess.

They hadn't seen him yet, but apparently they were already on their guard. "No surprise attacks then..." he muttered pulling his wand out and held it at the ready before he approached the two boys. "You would be James Potter, yes boy?" he asked looking to the younger one. It didn't matter who the other one was. From what Gellert had been able to figure out through observing the journal conversations, James was the oldest. The other was probably just a friend of some sort. Easily dispensable.

If James had been nervous before, hearing Teddy tell him to shush had made him downright paranoid. Seeing Teddy take out his wand, he hurriedly pulled out his own. He managed to keep his hand steady, but he was looking around anxiously, not sure where he should be pointing his wand. And then an older man appeared, walking towards them.

The sight of him made the hair on the back of James's neck stand up, even before he started speaking. Looking directly at James, he asked, "You would be James Potter, yes boy?"

James fought back the urge to snark back with a Who wants to know? Something was telling him that this wasn't someone who would appreciate the sarcastic approach. Shit, shit, shit. "No," he answered, though he feared that the response had come out sounding much more hesitant and much less firm than he would have liked. Trying to be subtle, he slowly started making his way over to stand closer to Teddy, keeping his wand at the ready. "Never heard of a James Potter. Perhaps you should try up at the school, might be one there. Go on in and ask at the headmistress's office, she might be able to help."

"Get behind me," Teddy said through gritted teeth at a volume only meant for James. Of course this just had to happen now... by himself, not even able to to contact his Mum or Dad for back up. Sure he was an Auror but-... no he couldn't think about that now. He couldn't think of the reasons why his Mum was right. He needed to protect James NOW!

"Or maybe you should just leave. Not even bother with the school. There is nothing for you here," Teddy said his wand pointed at the return from the dead Dark Wizard. Could he distract him long enough for James to run...

Grindelwald let out a bored sigh already. Why were these Potters so annoying. "I heard him call you James," he said simply. Also they didn't seem as nearly as confused as they should be if the situation did not apply to this particular James.

"I don't have all day. Step aside, and let the boy come with me. It will be less painless that way. I only need him as a bargaining chip. If his father complies, than he will be free to go," Grindelwald explained. Though he knew these types, explanations and logic didn't work well.

James immediately did as Teddy said and stepped behind him, though he felt guilty for putting his honourary brother between himself and the other wizard who was clearly intent on him. He briefly considered claiming to be James Lupin or James Dobbs or some other varient thereof, but he doubted that that would work at this point.

Another possibility crossed his mind. He knew it was ludicrous, that Teddy would never let him do it, but he whispered it anyway. "Teddy, maybe I should just go with him. He's going to attack you first, I don't want you to get hurt." Even as he said it, though, he was already expecting the negative response.

"Don't even suggest that," Teddy said angrily, but he didn't turn away from Grindelwald. He couldn't... he didn't know what the older man would do.

"James..." Teddy whispered. "When I say, you're going to run as fast as you can to the castle. Don't look back." Grindelwald may have heard, but they didn't have much choice. They weren't in a boundary to apparate away.

Teddy reached behind quickly pushed James. "GO!" Teddy yelled before pointing his wand to Grindelwald. "Stupefy!"

"You should listen to the boy. He seems to actually be logical," Grindelwald said but not surprised by the defenders reaction of the plan. He could see very easily what they were doing. The older one... this Teddy was pushing them back. The age old plan b... running.

He was ready for the first attack, "Protego." He blocked the stun easily and ee was quick to counter, "Stupefy". He wasn't done with Teddy get even when he'd made his attacker fall to the ground "Expulso." And Teddy was blown back out of his way, and he hit his head hard against a tree.

Very reluctantly, James had gone along with it when Teddy had shoved him back in the direction of the school. He started running, but at the same time he pulled his journal out of his inner cloak pocket. He heard Teddy shoot a stunning curse, but when he heard the other man cast protego, he simply couldn't keep running. Knowing that Teddy was going to kill him, James dove behind a nearby tree for shelter. He tried to scribble out a hurried plea for help in his journal, but he was mid-sentence when he saw Teddy get blown into a tree. He didn't get up.

Horrified, James had cried out, "No!" before he could stop himself. Oh, bloody hell, he thought to himself. Now the guy not only knows I'm still here, but he can pinpoint my exact location. Bril, James, just brilliant. "Fuck it all," he muttered to himself. Still hiding behind his insubstantial tree, he took aim. "Confringo!"

The boy didn't make if very difficult to find him. He'd made a febble attempt to attack him, but Grindelwald blocked it again. "Accio Wand," he muttered in order to collect the boy's wand. Just so he wouldn't be ever more difficult.

"Petrificus Totalis," he said aiming at the boy's less than convenient hiding spot. They needed to be out of there quickly, and he still had to get Ariana. Once he was sure the boy was immobile, he made James float behind him, as Grindelwald quickly made his way to the edge of the Forbidden Forest where Ariana would be waiting.

Remus was bored in the hospital wing as usual. And as the days went by he was getting more and more bored. But Poppy wouldn't let him leave. The most she would let him do was grade parchments, And even then she would grumble at him if he finished one class and tried to move onto another. One class an hour she said. Remus loved the woman...but he had enough. After all, he was healed almost from head to toe. Besides his arm, although Poppy seemed to doubt that would ever heal.

So every so often he would check his journal. Hoping that someone would say something interesting. Just as Remus was about to attempt to try and have a piece of chocolate that Teddy brought him earlier, he opened his journal to see a message from young James. He smiled to himself expecting to hear about a new scheme that would end with the boy in detention, but that wasn't the case. He and Teddy were being attacked. Two moments later, Remus was out of his bed and on a broom towards his son and pupil. It didn't matter to him what Poppy thought anymore.

Flying overhead, he saw his son crumpled up. "Merlin no," He swore only now wondering if he should have called for Tonks. But it was too late for that. Remus flew down and dropped down to his son. "Teddy...Teddy please wake up," He muttered cradling his full grown son in his arms.

(OOC: Sorry it took me a bit to react to this, I forgot that you played both characters haha.)
