Application for Hermione Granger
Player Information
Name: AK

Age(must be 18+): 21
IM screen names: britlitlover316
Email: starla316@hotmail.com

Where did you hear about us?: Well, I’m already playing Hannah!

Why did you apply to Tempus Fugit, and what do you feel you can bring to the game?: I considered applying for Ron, but I felt like I could RP Percy better than Ron. I’m kind of a stickler for the rules, just like Percy, and he’d be a really great addition to the Ministry of our game right now.

Previous RP experience: I currently play Hannah at this wonderful game called Tempus Fugit. Maybe you’ve heard of it?

Character Information

Name of character you are applying for: Hermione Jean Granger

Age of character you are applying for(physical age, if one of the resurrected): 22

Birthday: 19 September, 1979

PB: Keri Russell

House at Hogwarts: Gryffindor

Family
Parents: Jonathon and Joan Granger, dentists
Siblings: None
Family interactions (how does your character get along with his/her family members?): Hermione has a deep love and respect for her parents, which has grown since her full integration into magical life. She went out of her way to learn very complicated magic to make sure they were protected during the second war. Her first order of business after Lord Voldemort was defeated was bringing them back to England. Though she loves her family, she spent a lot of time away from them during her years at Hogwarts, mainly because she had no one to have fun with in their muggle home and wanted unlimited access to wizarding books.

Occupation: Recently hired in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement to review outdated laws.
Residence: In Muggle London, close to the Ministry of Magic.
Financial status: Independent, but not wealthy

Political views: Hermione upholds all the Ministry’s current policies in public. Privately she is a Conservative Integrationist.

Blood Status: Muggle born

Sexuality (Please note, if you are playing a pureblood character who is also gay/bisexual, there are guidelines): Heterosexual

Physical description

Height: 5’4”
Weight: 125 lbs
Distinguishing marks: Curly brown hair and several burns from her adventure in Gringotts.

Give us a description of your character's appearance: Hermione hasn’t cut her hair in a very long time. She is the only person in her immediate family with curly hair and, when she was younger, her mother chopped Hermione’s hair short and it ballooned out into a triangle. She hasn’t cut it since. Therefore, her hair hangs down to the middle her back. When she was younger, she just let her curls fly wild, resulting in a bushy mane of light brown. After having a heart to heart conversation with Parvati and Lavender, however, her hair now stays in perfect curls with minimal effort. She straightens it only for special occasions.

Her face is faintly heart shaped, giving the appearance of full cheeks. Her eyes have a distinct arch, which Hermione quips happened from questioning Harry’s dubious theories. Her top lip is significantly thinner than the bottom, which she attributes to all the pursing she does around Ron. Her nose is unusually straight and her eyes are a deep chocolate brown.

Compared to the other girls in her year, Hermione has always been short, making her mass of hair seem even bigger. Unfortunately, she also carries a few extra pounds but this just makes her sturdier and substantial. She looks a lot bigger than she really is. However, Hermione has always used this to her advantage. In a crowded room, no one would be able to miss her, even if they could carry on conversations literally over her head.

Give us a description of your character's personality (for example, are they a confident person? Do they speak their mind? What are their flaws and good points? We want to know that you have a good understanding of your character, so feel free to use examples and make it as in depth as possible): Hermione is nothing but vivacious. She reads every book she can get her hands on (preferably at least twice), she speaks her mind, she lives her life, and loves her passions. By the time she had gotten her Hogwarts letter, she had read the entirety of the primary school library and was having books sent from the secondary school. Her love of books stems from an intense hate of make believe. While her classmates were off pretending to be princesses and wizards (with no regard for historical accuracy!), Hermione would be reading The Last and Future King or studying the historical background on the persecution of witches. When she’s unsure of herself and her surroundings, she falls back on what she’s learned about a given situation from books. Usually this makes her appear to be a stickler for the rules, but the rules is all she can learn from books.

Hermione is determined. When she finds something that peaks her interest, she doesn’t stop until she knows everything about it. This is how she ended up reading the entire library in primary school. Once one subject was complete, it would bring up the need for another to be completed and on it continued. But unlike most voracious readers, Hermione actually takes the information and processes it to make it completely her own. Her professors were always impressed with her critical thinking skills that took every subject to the next level. She’s highly skeptical of all unsubstantiated claims and tends to combat these perceived evils with a biting sarcasm. She only believed in the wizarding world after Professor McGonagall turned her couch into a horse.

Hermione has a keen sense of morality and justice. When she sees something wrong, she takes every available action to fix it. This is most evident in her actions to improve the living conditions of house elves, but is also apparent in her actions with Harry and Ron, trying to fix the inherent prejudices in her new home. Luckily, Hermione also knows the value of little white lies and doesn’t mind telling small lies to save the feelings of those she loves and cares for. She also uses this kindness, learned from years and years of bullying, to better understand the emotions of her fellow peers.

History
Please give us a brief history of what happened to your character past canon to bring them to this point. if playing an OC, please give a much longer history to show how your character fits into this world. Immediately following the defeat of Voldemort, Hermione traveled to Australia to undo the memory charms on her parents. She spent a month in Australia on holiday with her parents, telling them everything that had happened during their year apart. Her parents were happy to go back to their private dental practice in Southern England.

Upon returning to England, Hermione joined the force at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures while studying for her NEWTs. (Hermione would not be denied the pleasure of taking the hardest tests in the wizarding world, but felt she couldn’t return to Hogwarts after the battle.) She moved up quickly in a department that was reevaluating its position towards magical creatures. Hermione became a champion for house elves and centaurs, rewriting laws that had originally oppressed these creatures. She made sure that the house elves, centaurs, and goblins were represented in all major wizarding governance bodies.

During her two years in this department, Hermione made many contacts throughout the Ministry. She stayed in close contact with all of the members of the DA and the Order of the Phoenix. With the promotions Hermione was given came pay raises and she was financially stable enough to live in a small flat in Muggle London. It’s a place she doesn’t feel embarrassed to bring her parents to but could also have Ron and Harry over to listen to Quidditch games on her Wireless set.

Recently, Hermione was promoted to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement to help them go through every Magical Law and eradicate any pureblood bias she could find. Though Hermione knows this work will help the entire country, she still misses working with her beloved House Elves. To satisfy her cravings, she’s started a small non-profit company that matches freed House Elves with appropriate jobs for them.

Resurrected Characters (please ignore if not applicable to your character)

If you are applying for someone who is still alive at the end of the series, and would like them to be considered for death and resurrection, please explain why:

If your character is one of the resurrected, what is their last memory and why have they returned at their particular age?:

Each person who returns from the dead using the magic of the resurrection stone must have a reason to come back. Not only would the character want to return, they must be needed by someone for something. Why have they been brought back? Who wanted them to return? Why?

Plotting

What short and long term goals do you have for your character?: Short term, I want Hermione to get out there and apply her book knowledge to help the political climate, as well as improving the situation for Muggles everywhere. I think she’d be a good poster child for the benefits of integration.
Long term, I would like her to start trying to figure out this whole undead thing. Obviously there are legal problems (how do we qualify those that are no longer dead?) but also the larger meaning, like how and why is this happening, what kind of dark magic is this?

How does your character feel about the post-war world? (The Wizarding Community becoming more open to muggles, captured Death Eaters receiving the kiss, or being stripped of their wealth and property for lesser offences): Hermione thinks that, as we share a world and country, we need to integrate into Muggle society to an extent. She’s not necessarily saying that moving pictures, broomsticks, and magical correspondence courses should be available to the Muggle public but she does think they should share responsibility. If the wizarding public had a solution for world hunger, it is their obligation to share it. Same goes for medical advancements, environmental concerns, and innovations in social justice. However, she is employed by the Ministry of Magic and feels it her duty to uphold their policies to the best of her ability. She has too much respect for Kingsley to do anything else.

Now that we are familiar with your characterization, please provide us with role playing sample so that we can get an idea of your writing style.

Be sure to write in the third person, and provide us with a new sample relevant to the game.

Writing Sample
Hermione roamed the stacks at Flourish and Blotts, running her hand over the spines of the books. She loved coming here after a hard day at work. The deepest stacks, the stacks carrying books on law and history, were always abandoned, and Hermione could find comfort in picking out a random book and reading the first page it opened to, as she did now.

This was the first place she came to when she was eleven. She had abandoned her parents to changing the Muggle money all on their own as she poured through the books. Naturally, she was drawn to the history section. She wanted to know everything about this world, about the school, about the mysterious Dumbledore. Her parents spent a lot of money on that first visit; so much that Hermione didn’t receive any birthday presents. But the books were presents enough.

She set the book back on the shelf and wandered back down the stairs and to the front of the store. Her mind was swirling with everything she’d just read, with the memories of her first visit to Diagon Alley, with everything that had happened in between.
