Application for Theodore Nott
Player Information
Name: Michelle

Age(must be 18 ): 23
IM screen names: chellealistic
Email: rpgalistic@gmail.com

Where did you hear about us?: From a friend on LJ who found your game and was looking at it with interest.

Why did you apply to Tempus Fugit, and what do you feel you can bring to the game?: The game looks well thought up and seems to be going well so far. The plot is interesting, too. Also, most of the games I'm in are with people I know already and I would like to branch out and give myself a chance to get to know new players and to create new interactions. I'm sick of cliques and drama.

Previous RP experience: All of my previous RP experience can be found in this post at my Character Development Journal. It includes games I am currently active in as well as all the games I have previously played in (please note that there are not links to all character journals because I have reused journal usernames).

Character Information

Name of character you are applying for: Theodore Alastor Nott

Age of character you are applying for(physical age, if one of the resurrected): 21

Birthday: November 19, 1979

PB: James Franco

Wand: 9" elm with dragon heartstring core from Ollivander's; mainly good for Transfiguration work.

House at Hogwarts: Slytherin (1991-1998)

Family
Parents:
VICTOR NOTT: Deceased. Victor Nott was an elderly man who was raised to be a Purist in every sense of the word. By the time Lord Voldemort came around, Victor believed it was his duty, even as an old man, to join the ranks of the Death Eaters. By the time Theodore was born, Victor was already pushing seventy years old, though he did not look, feel or act his age. He was able to keep himself young with various potions for enhancing the more physical aspects of his age that he couldn't hide very well. Even though he went through a lot as a Death Eater, he didn't seem to tire physically or mentally. Victor was quite a strong and impressive wizard, but never officially held a job due to the fact that he had enough family money to ensure he was free to do what he wanted. However, he did dabble in for hire cursebreaking during his youth.
ELEANOR NOTT (née Burke): Deceased. Eleanor Burke also came from a prominent, pureblood wizarding family, but she was decades younger than her husband. The marriage was arranged for her by the time she left Hogwarts (where she was a Ravenclaw). Though Eleanor was not happy with the arrangement at first, after a few years of marriage she started to love her much older and often times abusive husband. The wealth she shared with her husband was enough to keep Eleanor from working, but she stayed sharp by reading numerous books and participating in many activities. It was always her dream to have a houseful of children, but unfortunately Victor wanted no such thing. The only reason he finally agreed to impregnate Eleanor was from family obligation and passing down the name Nott.
Siblings: None.
Family interactions (how does your character get along with his/her family members?): The only close family member that Theodore has left is his Aunt Gloria (sister to his mother). They remain in contact and he visits her at least once a month. He considers her to be his second mother.

Occupation: Hit-Wizard for the Ministry of Magic.
Residence: Nott Manor in Bristol, England.
Financial status: Lower Upper class. Even though his father died before being capture, the Ministry of Magic required hefty fines, which left a considerable hole in his Gringotts account. Theodore owns Nott Manor now that both of his parents are deceased and also has several investments (some which he knows nothing about). He doesn't consider himself extremely wealthy, but he does consider himself a philanthropist. He most frequently donates money to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.

Political views: Theodore lies neatly between Conservative and Liberal Separatist. While he doesn't necessarily have a problem with Muggleborn wizards, he thinks it would be unwise to include Muggles in their world. Though most of his beliefs are firmly rooted in values he was raised with as a child, Theodore mostly fears that Muggles would take advantage of Wizards if they knew everything they could do and would rather live separately; as it's been working nicely for thousands of years.

Blood Status: Pureblood

Sexuality (Please note, if you are playing a pureblood character who is also gay/bisexual, there are guidelines): Heterosexual and bordering on homophobic (he does not recognize this trait in himself, however).

Physical description

Height: 5'11"
Weight: 153 lbs
Distinguishing marks: Theodore has rather expressive eyebrows and it's very easy to decipher is mood by looking at them. Other than that, he doesn't have many. A few scars from his childhood, but no one could see them unless they were intimate with him.

Give us a description of your character's appearance: Theodore is, as JK Rowling has said, a “weedy” looking boy. Of average height, but skinny. His features are sort of rough and dark, with dark brown hair and eyes to match. He has a mysterious quality to his appearance and it is easy for someone to think 'that boy is up to no good' when they see him. Though he comes from a family that was fairly wealthy, Theodore tends to dress comfortably and doesn’t try to be fashionable. You will usually see him in dark coloured robes or Muggle clothing. With dark eyes, hair and an Italian complexion, Theodore Nott can look quite the menacing fellow without trying too hard.

Give us a description of your character's personality (for example, are they a confident person? Do they speak their mind? What are their flaws and good points? We want to know that you have a good understanding of your character, so feel free to use examples and make it as in depth as possible): If given more time to develop as a person, Theodore is sure he would’ve been put into Ravenclaw. The beliefs he was brought up with were rooted in him deeply during his sorting and therefore he ended up in Slytherin. He is quite intelligent and enjoys hiding behind facts and books. The thing that sets him apart from his peers who were sorted into Ravenclaw is the fact that he is very much in control of his own life. He will look out for himself before looking out for a friend. Theodore can be quite selfish at times, but not necessarily in the way of materialistic things. He doesn't need things to be happy, but he does like being the best at everything. He strives for constant perfection in himself and those around him. It is very difficult for Theodore to understand how someone cannot learn as quickly as him and to him ignorance is the greatest weakness of them all.

Before Eleanor Nott was murdered by her husband, Theodore was set on the same path as his Slytherin friends. There was a time when becoming a Death Eater was very important to him. Even after suffering at the hand of his father countless times as a child, he still felt like he had a sort of duty to belong to Voldemorts' army. After his mother died, Theodore had quite the shock and spent a good deal of the remainder of his forth year evaluating himself and the world around him. He has quite the calculating mind, when he puts it to use. Since his mother practically begged him to not become his father, Theodore immediately dropped any and all thoughts of joining up with the ranks of the Death Eaters upon his graduation from Hogwarts. Instead of making this change of heart known to his classmates, he simply put up a very realistic facade. He acted like he enjoyed it when people tormented Muggleborns and he faked his loyalty to his house and to the Dark Lord. It wasn't easy for him to completely remove himself from his former life and his way of looking at everything around him, but in time he did.

For the most part, Theodore remains incredibly numb to the world for taking his mother from him. At the age of twenty one, he holds a very mature outlook on life, if not a little jaded and darkened by his loss. In the six years since his mother's death, Theodore has made very strict decisions about his future and is quite set on sticking to them. For example, he does not wish to live off of his father's money and in order to earn his own wages, Theodore is training to become a Hit-Wizard for the Ministry of Magic. Though this profession is scorned at by many of his friends due to the Hit-Wizards tracking down and eliminating much of the Death Eater threat, Theodore explains his choice of career away by saying, "It's what my mother wanted me to be". More questions are not tolerated.

Theodore has never considered himself to be a person who is need of a lot of people around him, but now that he's away from Hogwarts and able to live his life in a more normal way, he finds it is very easy to rely on other people. Of course, he still remains in contact with his Slytherin classmates, but he also has many acquaintances outside of that circle. He fancies himself a friendly sort of bloke. Theodore is easy to talk to as long as you don't ruffle his feathers, in which case one would find that he is quite stubborn in his beliefs and tends to argue them until he is blue in the face. As time has gone by, Theodore's compassion for others has grown and he finds that there is a very emotional side of himself that he never knew existed while he was younger. He is very passionate about things he believes in and tries his hardest to stand up for them. Along with this, Theodore is a philanthropist and gives generously to many Wizarding organizations, including St. Mungo's.

His relationships with other people really depend on the person who he is dealing with. Some of the people he has known the longest barely know him and he is quite cold and uncaring toward them. The only person who truly knows all of his thoughts and feelings is his Aunt Gloria. To her, he tells everything and has revealed his heart and soul. The only person who could ever rival her for insight into his heart and soul is a romantic partner, of which he hasn't had many. This is due to Theodore's very busy schedule as of lately. During Hogwarts he fancied many girls and may have flirted or had the occasional snog, but he never really let himself over to a long-term romantic relationship. He still believes himself not quite ready, but is more open to the possibility of finding love. His father, while still alive, wanted to have him married off by the time he left Hogwarts, but all plans for that fell through once Voldemort came to power. Theodore does not believe in arranged marriages and would rather find someone specifically suited for him.

When he does become involved with someone in a romantic sense, Theodore will be the complete opposite of his father. Sensitive, compassionate, attentive, considerate and polite are all the sorts of traits that a significant other will come to know about him. He is also a bit of a romantic. Though at times he might say things he doesn't mean, he will be quick to apologise (if he is in the wrong) and make up.

Astrology from HP Astrology

Scorpio is the eighth house of the Zodiac and governs the genitalia. Positive traits include magnetic charisma, ambition, drive, a penetrating mind, curiosity, intensity of focus, emotional depth, consistency, persistence, willpower, and the potential for inner transformation and regeneration; negative traits include selfishness, obsessiveness, vindictiveness, hypersensitivity, ruthlessness, cynicism, an inability to understand the word "moderation," and jealousy. It is said that Scorpios embody both the best and the worst of all that are born under the stars, and that there are three kinds of Scorpios: wicked scorpions, cunning serpents, and saintly eagles. What each Scorpio becomes is entirely up to that Scorpio.

What is said of Slytherins born under all other signs is doubly true of Slytherins born under Scorpio. (Or was it that what is said of Scorpios is doubly true of Scorpios sorted into Slytherin?) There is no middle ground here - these wizards can embody all that is the very best in the world... or all that is the very worst. They are heroes, or they are villains. They are attracted to the dark, twisted, and forbidden mysteries of the world from the day they are born, and only they can determine whether they will study the dark arts in order to oppose them, or to embrace them. However, as Scorpio is a sign of transformation and regeneration, it is not impossible for even the most evil of dark wizards to turn to the path of good... Scorpio Slytherins have uncanny wisdom, insight into human psychology, and high "emotional IQ's." They are incredibly ambitious, often exist in a state of total ego, and if misused or hurt, can nurse the wound and seethe for decades. Still, although they are often tempted to do horrible things in the name of glory or discovery, they nevertheless are often the kindest, most compassionate, and most forgiving people of all, for they have seen their own inner darkness, faced it, and do not run from it when they encounter it in others.

History
Please give us a brief history of what happened to your character past canon to bring them to this point. if playing an OC, please give a much longer history to show how your character fits into this world.

Born November 19th to a Death Eater father, Victor, and a mother, Eleanor, who shared their beliefs, Theodore Alastor Nott was, as his father would have him believe, a mistake. Victor never wanted children, but gave in to his wife's constant whining about it. From that day forth, Theodore was treated in a bipolar manner: loved and adored by his mother and ignored and sometimes sneered at by his father. Because of this, home life was often stressful and depressing for the young boy, who received many beatings from his father, most of the time for little to no reason.

During his early childhood, before Hogwarts, Theodore was tutored by Eleanor at home. He was taken on play dates with other Death Eater families and it helped with his upbringing in the traditions and beliefs of Voldemort. Ultimately, this is why Theodore ended up in Slytherin House upon entering Hogwarts the year of 1991. At first he stayed close with the familiar DE playmates he had spent much time with, but as the years rolled by, Theodore soon realized he was unlike the other boys, though he wasn’t sure why. That is, until his fourth year at Hogwarts. During Christmas holiday, Theodore returned home to find his mother lying unconscious on the floor. At first, he believed her to be dead, but upon finding a dark and bloody bruise on the back of her dead he suspected that his father was behind the attack. As soon as possible, Theodore got his mother to St. Mungo’s, where the Healers examined her and told Theodore that she had serious damage to her brain. A day later, Victor Nott returned home and was questioned by a frightened Theodore. His mother was everything to him and even though Victor was his father, the only respect Theodore had for him was due to fear. Two weeks before he returned to Hogwarts, Eleanor Nott died of a blood clot while at St. Mungo’s, but not before asking her son to never become what his father had. Theodore took this request to mean that his mother didn't want him to become a Death Eater.

Following the death of his beloved mother, Theodore returned to Hogwarts an altered person. The gangs of Slytherin boys he had previously stayed quite close to soon seemed unappealing and Theodore distanced himself as much as possible without making himself their enemy. To these boys, Theodore probably seemed more independent than disapproving. Since his first day at Hogwarts, Theodore had been one of the brightest in his class and now that he spent less times trying to gain the confidence of the other Slytherins, he improved his study habits even more. When the time came to take O.W.Ls and N.E.W.Ts, Theodore impressed everyone by being one of the few students who earned nine "outstandings" and two "exceeds expectations" on the fifth year exams and earned N.E.W.Ts for every class he took his seventh year. His favorite classes had always been Transfiguration, History of Magic (no matter how dull the professor) and Potions.

The night Dumbledore was killed, Theodore found himself changed in a very deep way and upon leaving for the summer he asked his father if he could move in with his mother’s sister, Gloria, who was neutral in all matters of war. Theodore’s father, having never loved or enjoyed his son, did not bother to argue. The summer after Dumbledore's death and Theodore's sixth year went by quite peacefully because he was far away from many Wizarding areas of England. He only visited his friend occasionally and tried his best to stay out of the way of what was going on.

Upon arriving for his last year at Hogwarts, Theodore found himself in quite a position. Now that the Headmaster of Hogwarts was Professor Snape, he had a certain amount of loyalty to Slytherin house. While he certainly did not approve of the manner in which the Carrows treated many of the students, Theodore stood idly by out of fear and loyalty. When he could, Theodore stayed out of the way of the brother and sister team and did his best to not become one of their favorite Slytherins (because those people seemed to be the ones who took pleasure in torturing their classmates). By the time word got around that Harry Potter found his way into Hogwarts after months of being absent, Theodore knew that things were about to get worse. On the night of the Battle of Hogwarts, Theodore did very little to help anyone and concentrated on getting himself out of harms way. As soon as he was off of school property he Apparated to his Aunt Gloria's and stayed there long after Voldemort was defeated by Harry Potter.

It was after that event that Theodore decided to become a Hit-Wizard. He definitely had the marks for it and wouldn't mind the rigorous training and constantly busy schedule. In fact, he quite looked forward to it. His life, in the last three years since leaving Hogwarts, has been filled with training and studying.

Plotting

What short and long term goals do you have for your character?:
Short: Sell Nott Manor and move into a more convenient and smaller residence closer to London and the Ministry of Magic, get a dog (because he's always wanted one and was never able to have one because his father wouldn't allow it), free all of the House Elves that were under his father's rule, learn to cook for himself.
Long: Become one of the best Hit-Wizards the MoM has ever seen, marry, have three or four children, have his mother's remains removed from the Nott family cemetery, buy his own manor in the country, forgive his father, forgive himself.

How does your character feel about the post-war world? (The Wizarding Community becoming more open to muggles, captured Death Eaters receiving the kiss, or being stripped of their wealth and property for lesser offences): Theodore isn't a fan of the Wizarding Community becoming more open to Muggles because he fears that they will take advantage of the opportunity and cause more mayhem than they are worth. Since they are just now getting over a war and trying to rebuild their community, he feels it is far too soon to even consider such ideas. Because his father was a Death Eater and he hated his father, Theodore is neutral concerning captured Death Eaters receiving the Kiss or being punished by paying fines. He thinks it is well deserved. However, most of his peers and friends are children of Death Eaters and he does not openly admit to his opinions regarding the matter.

Now that we are familiar with your characterization, please provide us with role playing sample so that we can get an idea of your writing style.

Be sure to write in the third person, and provide us with a new sample relevant to the game.

It wasn't often that Theodore wanted to go for a swim. The hellish day he experienced at work was part of the reason he was digging through his dresser looking for his bathing suit and the other reason was that he received an owl from a cousin of his father's asking him if he was planning on selling the Nott estate in South Kensington. It was a house that Victor Nott never used much, but kept around "just in case". The ten room penthouse held many bad memories for Theodore and the owl reminded him of them. Instead of sitting in the manor and drinking the night away, Theodore decided to do something useful. Something that would focus all his energy into doing instead of dwelling.

"Ah!" Theodore exclaimed as he pulled the dark blue pair of swimming trunks out from the third drawer of his mahogany dresser. The sharp word echoed through his flat and for a second Theodore wasn't sure if he had made the sound himself or if the manor ghost, Charles, was floating nearby.

It took him only a few minutes to get out of his Ministry robes and into the trunks. As he did this, Theodore was trying to think of the last time he had even touched the small lake on the property. It had probably been at least twelve years. Thoughts from twelve years ago started to enter his head and soon he was thinking about the letter he had received. Before leaving the house, Theodore grabbed a big, fluffy, white towel out of the hallway cupboard and flung it over his shoulder.

Sighing, he headed down to the lake and was surprised to see that it looked much clearer than he had ever remembered it being. Apparently the House Elves were taking good care of it just in case someone wanted to go for a dip. As soon as he was ready, he dived into the lake and was instantly shocked by the temperature. Why did he not think to perform some sort of warming charm on the water beforehand? Theodore was never one to think too far ahead, especially when his mind was occupied with stories from his past.

Theodore pushed his body against the water and fought hard against foul memories that kept rearing their ugly heads in his brain. Twenty minutes passed before Theodore even realized that it was dark. Thirty minutes passed before his body started to ache.

I really need to exercise more often, he thought to himself as he took a moment to rest and run a hand over his slick black hair. Then, as if realising how silly it sounded for him to think he needed to exercise more, Theodore rolled his eyes and let out a snort of laughter that sounded very high-pitched for someone with such a deep voice. He was a bloody Hit-Wizard, wasn't he? He exercised nearly every day in one way or another. After the short rest, he sighed and dove back under the surface of the water. He didn't mind the darkness.
