Application for Lily Evans Potter
Player Information
Name: veetee

Age(must be 18+): 18
IM screen names:
Email: refracted.ion@gmail.com

Where did you hear about us?: Through regulus_is_love on LiveJournal and I now play here.

Why did you apply to Tempus Fugit, and what do you feel you can bring to the game?: I'm applying to Tempus Fugit because I really like the atmosphere and the players that are within this game and have been looking to pick up a second, female character for awhile. I haven't played Lily before, but I think she's a character that becomes more legend within the novels rather than a person and would love to explore the depth of her emotions, motivations and flaws.

Previous RP experience: Currently, I play Regulus Black here, and am playing Regulus Black and Antonin Dolohov over at [info]houseofgaunt

Character Information

Name of character you are applying for: Lily Anne (Evans) Potter

Age of character you are applying for(physical age, if one of the resurrected): Nineteen

Birthday: January 30, 1960

PB: Alison Sudol

Wand: Willow, 10 1/4", swishy (nice wand for charm work)

House at Hogwarts: Gryffindor

Family
Parents: Jacob and Rosalie Potter
Siblings: Petunia (Evans) Dursley
Family interactions (how does your character get along with his/her family members?):
Lily got along very well with her parents. She rarely got into any sort of fights with them, and often impressing and making them proud was the greatest reward she could get. She tried to be the best daughter she could for them, aware of how hard they worked to try and raise her and Petunia well.

Her sister, however, was a different story entirely. Petunia and Lily always got along very well when they were younger. Petunia was the more poised of the two while Lily was more adventurous and it often resulted in Lily trying to outdo Petunia. Their fights, though rare, were often very intense resulting in neither girl being willing to talk to the other for days on end until a ceasefire was called and an appropriate apology was issued, often in Petunia buying a new book for Lily or Lily going out and getting a bunch of wildflowers for her sister. However, when they started to become older an issue started to rise that was not so easily solved. Lily discovered that she was a witch, a chance that easily outstripped Petunia of any chance of catching up and divided the two girls so that they weren't quite certain how to react around each other anymore. Lily fumbled to try and keep some kind of relationship with Petunia, but things were just never quite the same and Petunia adamantly denied wanting to have anything to do with magic, which quickly consumed Lily's time.

Occupation: While she had much greater ambitions, the war after her departure from Hogwarts prevented her from fully developing her career. She wanted very much to travel about the world and cultivate her knowledge of Potions to include archaic and international secrets and then perhaps to publish a book about them. After that, she had planned to become a Professor, preferably at Hogwarts. However, the war prevented those expectations and while she was a member of the Order of the Phoenix she worked part time at a small potions shop located in Diagon Alley.
Residence: At the end of her life, she was living with her husband and son in Godric's Hollow.
Financial status: The family that she was born into wasn't extremely well enough, but they lived comfortably enough. There wasn't an excess of anything, but Jacob always made sure to provide well enough. Her financial status improved significantly upon marrying James.

Political views: Former member of the Order of the Phoenix.

Blood Status: Muggleborn.

Sexuality (Please note, if you are playing a pureblood character who is also gay/bisexual, there are guidelines): Heterosexual and completely in love with James Potter.

Physical description

Height: 5'9 (175 cm)
Weight: 140 pounds (64 kg)
Distinguishing marks: Lily is easily identified by her long, red hair. It's a characteristic that caused her a great deal of grief when she was younger, but one that she's come to love a great deal. And of course, the distinguishing mark that has become perhaps more noticeable and recognizable since her death, her green eyes.

Give us a description of your character's appearance:
Lily has dark red hair that comes down to about her lower back. It's fairly curly and causes her an endless amount of strife whenever she tries to do anything with it and just loves to fly all over the place. When she's working and too busy to be bothered with it, she'll usually just tie the whole mess up into a bun. Even though it causes her so much grief, she can't bring herself to cut it short.

She receives the most compliments on her eyes, which are a pretty shade of green and are the features that Lily is probably most vain about. However, she does have to wear reading glasses. She's also very pale, her complexion not entirely surprising to suit her green eyes. When she's in the sun for long she tends to get very freckled.

Her body stature is fairly lithe. She's a little above average height for a young woman, and likes to consider herself slim, but not skinny. Dressing wise, she likes things that are simple and doesn't tend to enjoy dressing up or wearing too much make up. Her outfits often consist of just simple dresses or pants and a t-shirt. She has no piercings or tattoos.

Give us a description of your character's personality (for example, are they a confident person? Do they speak their mind? What are their flaws and good points? We want to know that you have a good understanding of your character, so feel free to use examples and make it as in depth as possible): Lily is extremely independent. She likes to explore and have her own adventures, and has been that way ever since she was very small. Her parents always complimented her on her ability to learn on her own and her natural curiosity. Learning of the wizarding world and her own magical talents delighted her to no end since it opened up almost an entire universe of knowledge she had never been able to encounter before.

She's very stubborn, not afraid to speak her mind and tends to be opinionated. Lily is able to easily identify the goals that she has in mind and find a way to achieve it. She refuses to let anyone get in the way of that and will tell them off if she has to, and especially isn't going to let anyone deny her access into the wizarding world simply because she was born to Muggles.

Because of these characteristics, she can often come off as being slightly callous. In actuality, it just takes a bit for her to reorganize her plans when she comes across something she wasn't expected. The biggest example of this, of course, is her relationship with James Potter. She identified him easily as the boy that was perhaps not too bright and was content to be lazy and popular. When she really got to know him, it was difficult for her to come to terms with the fact that she did love him and enjoy his company, but once she had, it was whole hearted decision and commitment.

However, she's also very protective. She worries a great deal about those who are close to her and is quick to lend a helping hand whenever she is able to. As her relationship with James grew, so did the ones with James, Peter and Remus, resulting in her fretting over them a great deal more than she would probably ever be willing to admit, but also trying to be a kind of voice of reason for them.

Lily is also easily delighted. She likes being able to laugh, which is perhaps why she was able to get along with James so well in the end, because he has the ability to make her smile.

History
Lily was born into a small, modest Muggle family. She had a fairly normal childhood and was very close with her older sister, Petunia. The two were obviously different, but were able to get along and understand each other very well. Lily loved being outside even as a small child, and was prone to picking all the flowers in her mother's garden and coming back a complete mess. She was a very happy child, but both of her parents started to notice odd occurrences that would occasionally happen around Lily. It perplexed them a little when things would break during Petunia's and Lily's fights or when the flowers would magically grow back over night as though Lily had never picked them, but it was something they merely accommodated themselves to deal with and decided to watch carefully as Lily grew older.

Lily, of course, came to a fast understanding of what she was, helped along by her best friend and neighbor, Severus Snape. She was a witch. After the revelation, she and Severus became very close and shared almost all of their secrets, both eagerly awaiting their letters from Hogwarts. Such an occurrence divided Petunia and Lily indefinitely, however, as Lily finally took to a route that Petunia couldn't understand in the slightest. While the Evans were concerned at first with Lily's obsession with magical abilities, it all changed when they found out how very real Hogwarts was. The pair became proud of their daughter and were very supportive of sending her to school so that she could learn how to properly control, maintain and grow her talents. For Lily, receiving the letter was perhaps the most exciting day of her life and she instantly shared and compared her letter with Severus'.

She was terrified when she arrived at the school, but was careful not to show it behind her pallid features. Perhaps the worse was when she took a seat on the stool and the darkness of the Sorting Hat enveloped her. But it declared her to be Gryffindor, and smiling, she took her seat at her new table. Lily loved Hogwarts dearly and felt it to be an instant home, though she made sure to keep in close contact with her parents, sending parcels and frequent letters home to them and Petunia. She tried her best at everything she tried, and found herself to be a natural at Potions.

It didn't take her long to meet James Potter and Sirius Black. She got along quite well with their friend, Remus Lupin, but really had no interest in the other pair, who seemed a little too immature and spoiled for her tastes, the embodiment of the wizards who found their places at Hogwarts a right instead of a privilege. Therefore when she learned that James Potter liked her, it was quite baffling. She was uncertain how to react at first, but upon watching their childish pranks and listening to James' fumbling attempts, she merely spurned his affections. Her already uncertain feelings toward James soured even further when he so easily taunted Severus, who she was still good friends with despite being in different houses.

As the war started to come into play, her relations with Severus became difficult as he became more and more involved with individuals that would easily see Lily kicked out of Hogwarts. She had immense trouble understanding what was causing such a change in him and it seemed that everything between them had changed. At the same, James Potter, who had not given up as easily as she had expected, had also started to change, shedding many of his childish mannerisms. It took a few subtle comments from Dumbledore about James' development and both of them being made Head Boy and Head Girl for Lily to realize that she had in fact become rather fond of James and his continuous attempts at trying to win her over. She agreed to go on a date with him, and really, she was won over after that. It took her a bit longer to become accustomed to Sirius, but once she saw the depth of his issues and concerns with his family, she became quite a bit softer toward him as well.

They all became increasingly more involved with the war, and joined Order of the Phoenix. It was tiring work, and it was terrifying for her whenever James was sent out on missions, a fact that she tried to conceal, but wasn't entirely able to. One of the most difficult times that their relationship went through was when James' parents were killed. It was a devastating blow to both of them, as Lily had been extremely fond of James' kindly parents. She tried her best to help him through the time, but was scared that she wasn't really enough for him. Her worry and grief made her realize just how in love she really was with James and when he asked her to marry him, she instantly agreed.

Their wedding was small and quiet, but it was the way that Lily probably would have wanted it anyway. Both of them continued working fervently for the Order, but when Lily found out that she was pregnant, they were forced to go into hiding because of the Prophecy. Lily found the entire ordeal terrifying, and spent many of the first days of her pregnancy hiding herself away and crying endlessly. The idea of bringing a child into such incredible danger scared her endlessly and she felt that she had already failed as a mother. Things were made even worse due to the fact that her parents were murdered during this time, making Lily's fears all the more real.

When Harry was born, Lily was still afraid, but she knew that she could never regret having him the moment that she was him and fell in love with her son instantly. She struggled to be the best mother that she could to her son and loved to see James daunting over him so. However, their life as a small, happy family was short-lived. Shortly after Harry's first birthday, Lord Voldemort finally came after them. Unaware of Peter's betrayal, Lily struggled to defend her son against the Dark Lord. However, she wouldn't survive the ordeal to know of her success.

Resurrected Characters (please ignore if not applicable to your character)

If you are applying for someone who is still alive at the end of the series, and would like them to be considered for death and resurrection, please explain why: N/A

If your character is one of the resurrected, what is their last memory and why have they returned at their particular age?: Lily's last memory is of discovering that she was pregnant. It was something that she and James had certainly talked about, but scared her to no end. The idea of bringing a child into the world that was so stricken at the time absolutely terrified her. She wasn't entirely certain she could be a good mother, but wanted so badly to be able to love and raise a child that she had created with James. At the time she would have been just shy of her twentieth birthday.

Each person who returns from the dead using the magic of the resurrection stone must have a reason to come back. Not only would the character want to return, they must be needed by someone for something. Why have they been brought back? Who wanted them to return? Why? Her husband, James, has been missing her terribly since his own return, and Lily would return solely for him alone. However, she can also help her son, Harry, who has had the pleasure of being reunited with his father and his friends but not his mother yet. Additionally, Lily would also want to help with rebuilding the world from the aftereffects of the war.

Plotting

What short and long term goals do you have for your character?: Short term, Lily would would want to be reunited with her husband, James, and be able to be with him again. Additionally, she would be very nervous and excited to hear about all the things that her son has done and would want to meet him. And, of course, she would want to see Remus, Sirius, and her sister. Long term, I would like to see her develop a deep relationship with Harry, and she would undoubtedly want to be very involved with any of the work that is still be continued from the Order of the Phoenix and with helping the world.

How does your character feel about the post-war world? (The Wizarding Community becoming more open to muggles, captured Death Eaters receiving the kiss, or being stripped of their wealth and property for lesser offences): Lily would be very pleased about all of this and would be immensely proud of the role that Harry played, though she would now feel very protective of him and probably dislike how the Ministry and media are treating him. However, she would probably be pleased to see a step toward integration of the two worlds. She would agree that former Death Eaters need to be punished, but the idea of giving them the Kiss would be very chilling for her.

Now that we are familiar with your characterization, please provide us with role playing sample so that we can get an idea of your writing style.
James was supposed to be home within the hour, but Lily hadn't worked up the effort to move from the bathroom yet. She was still sprawled across the cold tiles, where she had sunk down over an hour ago, feeling overwhelmed by the whole affair. There was a box of tissues on top of the counter near the sink that she could reach if she strained a bit, but she had left it alone for awhile, her head tilted back onto the rim of the tub. She knew that she should really get up, straighten her dress a bit, splash some cold water on her face and then go out to wait for James. But the weight of the information she had just learned was almost paralyzing and she couldn't move far enough to bring her right hand off the front of her stomach, which still showed no signs of the baby that was hidden within, but it would and soon.

They had talked about it, of course, but now the idea of another life that she was wholly responsible for was hard to endure. How in the world were they supposed to have a baby when one of them was always off every other night, leaping into danger to try and stop the war? Two nights ago, after all, it had taken James three hours to wake up after having caught the bad side of a hex, during which Lily had paced the room and chewed on her lip and refused to drink the tea that Remus had made for her. How were they supposed to raise a child in that environment? But how were they supposed to leave it all behind? Could she really ask James to stay home and be with her and their baby when he knew that Sirius and Remus and Peter would still be out stopping anyone from harming them? No. She couldn't even ask herself to do it.

She got to her feet, wobbling a bit and looked in the mirror. Her nose was still just a little pink, but her eyes were extremely red, the lids swollen from the intensity of the cry. Lily wanted this, really, the idea of having a small person that was a mixture of James and her was enchanting and enthralling, but... But.

“James, we're going to have a baby,” she said in a low voice, that was still rough around the edges as she looked in the mirror. She watched her lips form the words and listened to the pitch and tone of her own voice as the practiced the news that should have called for a joyous occasion. Her lower lip trembled a bit, a few slow tears making their way down her face. She ran her hand over the curve of her stomach, the fabric of her dress bunching as she moved it.

She took a deep breath, refusing to let herself cry. He needed to know and she was going to tell him and she was going to be happy while she did it, because this was going to be her baby and no one, not Lord Voldemort himself, could take that away from them. This was going to be their baby.

“James,” Lily repeated, her back straightening. She moved a strand of her bright red hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear. “We're going to have a baby.”

This time, though, she wasn't able to stop the tears that came and she dissolved into tears, bending a little over the sink, one hand lacing into the thickness of her hair, the other still clutching tightly at her stomach.

“I'm sorry,” she said softly, her voice wavering a little as she addresses the small child that was already starting to grow inside of her. “Really. I just want to protect you.”

Lily started as she heard the door shut and she turned a bit to see James entering the house, looking tired and exhausted. She wondered what he had been sent to do today. She wondered if he was okay. Hastily, she stood up and tried to wipe the tears off her face, but it was too late, he already seen and was making his way toward her, a concerned expression on his face. Lily didn't try to stop crying then, just wound her arms tightly around James' neck, pressing her face into the flat of his shoulder.

“James. We're going to have a baby.”
